Wolves, back in very early Alpha I REALLY WANTED PETS. So I would try to get a chicken in my house, after three hours just getting one in, 5 minutes later it despawned! So a wolf was really precious to me!

Let me add on to what I said. The ability to charge bows is awesome. It makes Creeper-slaying that much easier. Stackable food's also really awesome and life-saving. Now, that I think about it (thanks to all those who've been mentioning it), Spriting is awesome. It makes crossing previously uncrossable (with placing blocks) gaps over lovely lava and getting back to where you died at (thanks to death points on Rei's Minimap, of course) that much easier. I think I've only lost my everything once or twice on Multiplayer, since the addition of Sprinting.
