Hey guys,
I have a regular mob trap underground and the mobs end up in an elevator which brings them above ground. I have continued the elevator up but I want to stop it so that the mobs are considerably weak when they fall off, but don't die. Instead of having to remove all of the torches, wait for the mobs to spawn, test the height, then add or remove from the elevator (having to re-place all of the torches again), I would like to know if anybody knows how tall to make the elevator so that when zombies, skeletons, and creepers are brought up the elevator and drop off. they are weak but not dead, (or at least most of the mobs aren't dead.
You can prevent spiders from spawning by adding some blocks or halfslabs to your spawning pad.
A grid of blocks/halfslabs with 2 blocks between them will allow regular mob spawning and block spiders. You can only use regular blocks if the cieling in the spawning floor is 2 high. If the cieling is higher just use halfslabs.
Example in this video:

You can also make a spider filter before your drop. If i recall this is just a 2 wide by 1 high point in your mob system that lets spiders go forward and pulls regular mobs up a 1x1 tunnel. Either drown the spiders or do something else with them after they are filtered out of the mob flow. Etho's old mobevator videos should have something on this. I honestly have always used the halfslab pattern to block spiders.

You can expand your fall area so spiders can't grab any walls on the way down. They will take fall damage like any other mob and 23 block fall will get them to half a heart.
Spiders actually have much less Hearts than other mobs. But they climb up walls, therefore they simply don't fall as far. You'd need a much bigger fall area for spiders.

Over 90 % of the human population is stupid (in my honest opinion). Don't expect too much from them when you post something that actually involves thought.
