Hey, so I wanted to make sure no monsters can get near my home, so I constructed the setup below:
The problem is that they won't attack any monsters, even if they're RIGHT next to them (on the ground naturally). Originally the glass was one block higher (so that the fence was placed on its level) but I brought it down one in an attempt to get t he golems to work.
What should I do to make this work? I read that you can put a golem in a 'guard tower' that can be 1-4 blocks high, so this should be able to work...
What you need to do is build a 3x3 ring on the ground (TNT = nothing) = Overhead view
Then on one of the side blocks, build up 2 blocks.
= Side view
Then build your snow golem in the middle hole, up the little column. As soon as the pumpkin is placed and the golem becomes 2 blocks tall, place a plank on the side pillar so that the snow golem can't jump out, then destroy the column on the side.
If you dig a big pit around the golems, then any monsters that come near will be hit by snowballs, become hostile and fall in. It is recommended that the pit is very wide, so that skeletons will fall in too.
This is the best snow golem defense that I know of, and if you are willing to put in the work it becomes a decent mob grinder as well
Ok, thanks for all the replies and suggestions (,SIR_FreakShow).
So since no one commented on the feasibility of my build, I'm assuming there is no way you guys can think of to make it work.
The reason why I didn't build mine on the ground to begin with is because I wanted to be able to walk through it freely.
Anyway, I'll keep trying to make mine work, and if I don't manage to I'll just build a few turrets.

That's the most likely problem. There is a glitch where snow golems ignore mobs, but not all of them. I would make a snow golem defense like the one explained here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Snow_golem_defense_turrets
Or here: http://doityourselfonline.info/minecraft-snow-golem-auto-turret-beta-1-9-pre-release/
There both reliable, and I prefer the second one because it requires less effort.

EDIT: D'aaaw, it seems I've been ninja'd,
