I have two PC's. One with Windows, that I normally use for Minecraft, and an older Dell laptop with Ubuntu.
Both have Minecraft 1.9 installed.
I tried to run a local lan game, but cannot connect the two PC's. I followed numerous tutorials on how to do it, so I know I am doing the procedure correctly.
I opened up all traffic on the Ubuntu machine so its firewall is basically off.
i added Minecraft and Java to the Windows firewall so it would not block it.

I eventually got our lan problems sorted by using the program EVOLVE to connect. Still it was easier just to play together on a server !

Playing Minecraft is our chance to escape the reality and mundaneness of everyday life, if only for a little while.

Still cannot connect.
It says "Connecting" and just stays there.
Help would be appreciated.
Which machine is hosting Pappo? Perhaps the suggestion in this thread helps?:

Another forum with a similar perhaps more clear explanation:

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Pappo is on the Windows machine.
Thanks for the links.
I tried the suggestion in the link. I changed to my computers name in /etc/hosts file as suggested.
Still no luck.

Yes both computers are connected. They have both CAT-5 network cables and wifi. I had the cables before I added wifi and just kept both.
They are still not connecting.
