What are pigs good for? I used to breed them for meat, but then I realized that they only drop 0-2 meat, meaning they can sometimes drop nothing at all while cows always drop at least one (1-3). And steak is just as nourishing as pork chop, right? I know you can ride a pig if you find a saddle, but from what I understand you can't control it, only ride around while it goes on with being a pig. So that doesn't seem very useful. All the other animals have a unique purpose; chickens can drop feathers for arrows and always drop 1 meat, cows give milk and always drop at least one meat. Sheep can be sheared for wool of different colors (if you dye them first) and even squids drop the ink sacks you need to dye things black. But pigs don't seem to have any purpose. Is there any reason to keep them around, besides giving my farm a little diversity?
I don't know what to say. All I can really do is say you're right.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
Pigs serve three purposes:
1. Food when you can't find cows.
2. An achievement.
3. If you ride it while it's in a minecart, the minecart will move without anything helping it. I'm not sure on the exact details.
If you have a sword with the looting enchantment, then pigs own all, because they drop more pork. Cows only seem to drop more leather with looting, and chickens only drop more feathers.
That, my good sir, is what pigs are for. Looters like me.

#3 Put the pig in the minecart, add a saddle, hop on, and enjoy the pig powered minecart
Mmmmm... now u mention it they do sound useless. Maybe a special drop will come in the future from pigs or a special recipe may come but they are basicly useless.
I think they are useful if you wanna stay alive they are also their to be aesthetic and are their to make the world feel natural. You wouldn't want the world to be empty.
Untill you find cows or chickens, they are Gods. Once you find cows or chickens, they are still Gods, just useless, because it's more worthwhile breeding them for non-food drops as well (leather, feathers, milk). But you must never forget one thing ... BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACON!!!!!!
I find sheep not particularly usefull, I personally don't use wool much at all, except for beds, but I just slaughter droves of spiders for it
But all the tameable animals are useless once you find mooshrooms, - they drop leather, mushrooms, beef and mushroom stew, so you don't need food, you don't need sheep because you can tear the web out of spiders, and you don't need feathers because you can steal whole arrows from skeletons. Still need squid for black inc though.

Without pigs, our world would be dull. The meaning of life would stand no longer, the receptiveness would extinguish, nothing would be right anymore, so long as the pig lives, so does our souls.

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.

Anyone got a good strategy for hitting pigs with lightning? A "lightning farm" perhaps?
