Any strange, extraordinary, or just plain out of the ordinary land(/chunk) formations? Creepy outings while on your adventure? I'd love to know about them, and share my own stories/incidinces when I can.
All stories are welcome, long or short, tales true or tall, full text or image assisted. I just ask falsehoods are kept to a sparsity, it's also up to you how many grains of salt you want your readers to take your story with though, and I would prefer to see your findings, so please keep text stories to a low as well (they're fine if you don't screencap often), I'm sure there's a more fitting sub-forum for that content.
I'll start us off with a recent discovery of mine:
Having fully completed my barn I decided it was high time to begin filling in my first map (for my new jungle world of course), after strolling around my perimeter I found a nice little forest to start at, I carve a path into the trees until I come to a small lake, I decide to build a lake hut here for convenience. This is where the real story begins.
After settling into my little above water bungalows, I move on. Very much to my delight there was an ocean nearby that was in need of exploration. I really do love the ocean in this game, just the feeling of getting away from the mob infested land to the serenity of the boundless sea, completely unbothered by anything but the occasional squid. Except of course, this strange anomalie I sailed across...
I was definitely taken back by it at first. But upon closer inspection it was just a strange dip in the ocean.
Not satisfied with leaving my finding as it was, I went back to my new encampment to store my goods from any mishaps my strange endeavor might bring. I started by jumping into it with intentions to explore the bottom of it to see if it was effected with strange physics, it was not. It was but an air pocket caused by yet another chunk deformity, as I like to call them.
But, as I dove in, I caught a strange glimpse of something in the abyss... I had to sink to deep to see what it could be...
My first sighting I couldn't really tell what they were, I had thought they looked like odd structures of which I had no idea what to expect of. I know I had said I have a spot in my heart for the open ocean, but I didn't say anything about what's beneath it. For I also hold interest in the tellings of H.P. Lovecraft and Cthulu mythos. Sinking to the depths and seeing that, I honestly feared an entity(ies) larger than my self was gonna come up and nab me. I got back to my huts as fast as I could after the experience. After getting to camp I sat for quite a time, frantically wondering what it was I saw. Not liking what I saw, I decided to put off going back to it for now and continuing my small quest of filling in my map.
Some good portions of the map later I return to my huts and set my boat back off to the location. Mustering all the courage I had, I dove into the strange relics. Hoping that when I make contact I wouldn't just be standing on them, that they would just be air pockets like the one above.
Much to my relief, they were. [img here when I go back for one]
I probably shouldn't have stressed this so much seeing as there was another identical air pocket nearby, it was just the formation that unnerved me... :\
I can't remember what I was going to say, so I'll come back and edit in any ending notes. :v
Nothing creepy (other than accidentaly falling in a pit with an endermen.) I have, however, found a formation of glowstone in the Neter shaped like a key, and half-destroyed trees on a server. (it was on a server. kinda obvious)
The Air Pockets are REALLY common.
I haven't seen anything really natural and strange since 1.7.3 due to the new terrain generation
However, I have had 3 ravines in one. (A double deep ravine (2 ravines on top of each-other) + another ravine slicing through the middle in an X fashion

What I saw horrified me.

Screenshot is from 1.8. My guess is Endermen built it.
