I know many people say it is only possible to get a music disc by killing a creeper with a skeleton's arrow or finding it in a dungeon. Although I don't have any proof, I can declare this as false. Earlier today while exploring a cave, I saw one of those "waterfall going into lava" moments in a cave. I quickly saw a creeper at the base of the waterfall on the obsidian. I sniped it from a high up ledge and it dropped a gold music disc. I dove for it but it fell into the lava before I could.
I may not be able to prove that it's true, but I definitely think this encounter with Mr. Creeper should convince us to reevaluate our knowledge. It frustriates me to no end when false knowledge gets carried on by everyone like "Diamond is more likely to spawn near lava" and "You can find dungeons below pumpkin patches".
EDIT: There should be a weed joke for a title if you have 420 posts lol.
I've never seen any confirmation on that only being able to obtain music disks through those 2 methods above, though those methods most definitely work. I'd like to see someone look into this.

Yeah, creepers killed normally (even by the player) have a tiny chance to drop disks. It's guaranteed when you make a skeleton do it though.
This...
Or in a much less likely situation, Notch is expirimenting with Creepers killed by lava dropping the new music discs. It would be equally hard to Skeletons killing them, you risk it being burned.

Gamers. Whether thou be a troll or a modder, a complimentor or a criticizer, we may all come together to consecutively, and completely accurately, post the lyrics to the song "Still Alive".

This was exactly what I thought. The creeper dropping the record happened a while back, and I just recently heard people claiming you could ONLY get it from a skelly shooting a creeper.

Here's you diamond:
But seriously, is there actual code that proves it? I mean, if many people believed that a creeper only dropped Music Disks if killed by a skeleton, which is apparently false, couldn't there be a chance that it won't drop one?

You might be on to something. Someone test that.

But notice how it doesn't say that you can kill a creeper, and it may drop a disk. The wiki, while great, isn't a confirmation in my books.

Nope. I only tested once before the creeper broke quarantine, though.
I lost the dispenser. Good thing I hacked it in.
