My first lava death was when trying to fix an overflow problem on a lighthouse. It was my first time working with lava and I had underestimated the size of the collection basin located near the top, which resulted in quite a mess (although a mess that could be seen from miles away, outshining my intended design). I built an elaborate scaffolding to get back to the top and fix the problem at the source, but I fell through into the basin. I managed to climb out and jump over the side but died in mid-air microseconds from the water that would have saved me.
Another time I was exploring a swiss-cheese underground area off one of my mines and I took a wrong turn into a lava bath. It took many minutes to find my way back to the area, since I had been haphazardly investigating and torch-placing. I arrived near the scene only to be accosted by a zombie who stumbled out of the darkness and quickly dispatched me in my weaponless and armorless haste.
I seriously just googled "minecraft just died in lava" looking for consolation and found this thread... so i'm resurrecting it...
I had a TON of diamonds... bunch of redstone, iron, lapis... all the good stuff. I was trying to find my way OUT to get back to my home and I see a creeper in the distance... I made a run for it. It sizzled...then I made it far enough away and it stopped. I was like "no...F this... no creeper is going to tell me what to-" so I turned around and BOOM. Didn't kill me... just knocked me into a pool of lava.
F.
The thing that sucks is that this is the SECOND time I've died searching for diamond, and I HAD IT ... I just died on the escape. I'm going to kill all the creepers in the whole world. Or run. Probably run.
*generic mined-diamond and other semi-precious items, had gotten lots of stuff and useful tools and fell into lava*
Nothing to worry about XD You'll find more. And eventually, you'll jump into lava just to feel like it matters anymore.
Feel good? How good do you think it is that I have 60 iron blocks and 4 diamond ones?
I recently used lava to make a shitty mob trap under a spider dungeon. I doesn't work very well.
You see, I have this aspiration to build things out of wool.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
You know all those stories about digging straight down on a diamond block and falling through into lava? Psh, what are the odds? That never happens. I mean, come on.
This is exactly what happened to me today. Lost 5 diamonds, almost a stack of gold, several stack of redstone and 3 stacks of iron ore. This was my first expedition on that particular world (I had none of these ores), so I was very pissed.
One time i was playing peaceful and mining in the cave i found my first diamonds in that world. I got stuck into a water stream, couldn't walk torwards it, and it pushed me straight into a lava pool.

Died of fire a while back. Early beta. Out of my entire inventory, the only things that fell into the lava were the newly-crafted diamond pick, my bucket of water, and my obsidian. Ironic death is ironic
You spent the rest of your life guarding a city that constantly gets robbed by the thane?
HEY! Hey you! You can't just steal those cabbages! "Yeah I can.... awkward close-up) I'm the thane of whiterun."

Are youbored of minecraft? It's not the new features. I'll give you a hint:It's the terrain generation. Go play a map generated in 1.7.3 or earlier, then tell me you don't agree.
I was in a cave system with my friend, and as usual i was using a bucket of water to get rid of the lava. I placed the water, and then was hit by a spider and pushed into lava. Ironically the water turned all the lava above me into obsidian, and ultimately i was trapped in the lava.
Lost about 3 diamonds, a diamond sword, a couple stacks of iron, and iron armour.
Yeah i Was just on Minecraft on the Ps3, i was exploring, came across lava, went past it and above it, and without knowing i fell in a hole dropping me into the same lava! i wish i blocked it up. forgot to put this
Eleven diamonds, over a stack of iron, tons of redstone gold coal etc.
Happened way back in 2011 in Beta 1.7.3. I mean BETA 1.7.3
For some reason it has always stuck with me.
Yeah, I lost a bunch of obsidian that way too. Started flooding the cavern when I gather obsidian. Lately I've been working on a nether fortress base, been running into lava plenty. So I finally got in the habit of carrying a fire resist potion for just such an emergency.
I survive lava.

but I did have an unfortunate event when a cave spider thought it funny to scare me into lava
True survival server, and fun!

Needless to say I cauterized my lungs.
