So many famous youtubers or regular gamers on youtube have reasons why they set roots in specific biomes or near structures for resource or mineral purposes or just to give them that real feel of survival when in a biome with limited resources, i like to know why you set your roots where you start building. I'm gonna be setting up a poll, vote your place and write down why you build your house there, i'm pretty curious.
Like me for example, i go anywhere there is a village, for emeralds and crops and possible weapons and tools from the blacksmith for a head start.
I'm not gonna vote because I build anywhere. I always build my main base at spawn no matter the conditions there (deserts are annoying but in a fun sort of way, ice spikes just absolutely suck). It's a sort of a build challenge for me, to see how well I can come up with something neat given materials I might normally choose to pass over.
I like to build my house at the convergence of a plains and a forest. That way, there's flat land to build on and copious supplies of trees. In my current survival world, I have a small cottage in a tongue of a plains biome squeezed between a northern forest and a southern forest, with wider plains to the east and west. There are also spruce, flower, and roofed forests in the vicinity, and a birch forest way on the southwestern corner of the world.

Insulting people for their beliefs is not a good way of convincing them to adopt yours.
Fiction is just a game of make-believe recorded on paper or film. But that's what makes it so great.
I'm not sure how I live my life in Minecraft. Usually I just find a forest (My favorite is when it's on the edge of the ocean, farther travel!) and build a village. I then populate the village by curing zombies. I might post some pics but I have a rather nice little village I build in survival and so far the villagers are doing well. I try to imagine that the villagers are fellow survivors and we're what's left of some torn apart society. I act as a trader and explore for resources to help my village survive, thrive, and expand while the iron golems (I built seven) guard the little village. I'm planning to add more villages traveling down the coast, and if they ever add any huge ships to Minecraft I'll "Colonize" the lands across the sea.

Why are guinea pigs called guinea pigs when they are neither pigs or from guinea?
I got very lucky in my main world and found a plain next to a desert (which happened to contain a Stronghold). I usually dig a hole in the side of a cliff in the plain and survive on bread until I have enough cobblestone and coal. At that point I emerge and build a 4-5 blocks tall wall around my property and light it up. From there I just expand my fortress and take in domesticated animals and the likes. It's pretty cool looking outside while on my wall to see the crawling darkness, while behind me everything is full of torches.
I mark my spawn chunk (for relevant farms), the nearest sizable desert, the nearest ice spikes, the nearest swamp (for witch farm), and the nearest ocean (for travel/mushroom islands). Then I locate the most centrally located plains, with a slight edge given to any plains near an ocean simply for the view, and build there.
Most people choose the plains because of the flat conditions ideal for building a shelter. I'd choose snow/ice biomes though, because I enjoy the snow.

I generally prefer plains because horses spawn there that being said my current base on our server is in extreme hills as I wanted a walled "valley" to keep my horses in.

i usually build in the taiga biome, i love the scenery,, there is a lot of cliffs so its perfect for me to build my base inside on of them, there is plenty of trees and my my prefered food is the mushroom stew. This biome just fits my taste perfectly.
My preferred place is anywhere at the side of a mountain or large hill. I like to burrow my base into it for easy base building in the beginning. Then I start to add rooms coming off the side of the mountain as I go. Extreme hills are usually nice as long as they are near a forest.
My current Realm is started in a plains biome, however. And I built my base into the side of a medium sized hill over looking the ocean.
I build near spawn usually, in as open an area as possible. I much prefer desert, but it must be near other biomes for resources. Invariably, I will settle near large water though. That has no good reason other than I just like it there.
I like Plains with a nearby forest, because it gives you room and supplies to build what you want. I don't care much of having to use mountains though.

I like to build a base around a mob spawner so I can let the mobs build up while I'm tinkering with various things, then grab the xp when the frames start to lag. It's a lot more efficient then going to an xp grinder only when you need it and having to wait around.

I set my main base in extreme hills near the ocean. But when I wanna start some bigger project I just travel and build in many biomes. I don't wanna set everything in one place.
I didn't vote because I always put my base in my original spawn chunk. That way my farms and machines are always active. Lately I haven't started any new worlds because my family now has a server where my kids and grandkids and I all get together to play. Our base is in the original world spawn chunk which just happens to be plains, next to an ocean and across a river from a swamp.

Hipster Jesus liked you before you were cool.
I like to build on fairly flat terrain, close to the ocean. I like building towns

"Personally, I don't care how large the oceans are. I just want them to still be ocean. I want "land in water", not "water in land".
I SUPPORT BRINGING BACK ACTUAL CONTINENTS AND OCEANS.

I am terrible at living in minecraft, but mostly plains and also near oceans too

Nice. Probably the best idea yet.
