I honestly can not think of a version of minecraft that is better than the one now. The game didn't change that much because the same principles still apply. Enchanting is a good replacement for the traditional rpg leveling system. You get stronger, but not through physical strength. Dungeons, The End, and potions are still very late game and really just give you a goal to do when you have nothing better to do. Sure there is a few features that need working out. Overall 1.0.0 is where the fun is at and has plenty to keep everyone entertain.
I hate people who complain about potions, enchanting, and the dragon, but I also get annoyed when people say "Just don't use them.", if you're playing on a multiplayer server, sometimes potions and enchanting can give someone advantages in pvp areas.
On that note though, if you're playing single player, you really have no reason to complain about the RPG elements(because it's so far out of the way, that you never really need to ever use them), and I feel like if you're playing 1.4, you're probably playing singleplayer regardless. Man up.

"I want to genetically engineer a mammoth that is 2 feet tall and makes a WEH noise, I don't know why."
i dont see anyone ever ever putting forward a good argument as to why potions and enchanting ruined the feel of the game. it doesn't feel any different at all!!
making potions is crafting, how bleeding obvious is that.
Really it wasn't just one thing that changed the game so dramatically. It was a multitude. The 1.8 update introduced hunger, xp and a series of minor changes to things like animals, and land generation.
I'll be one to admit I still play 1.7 because quite frankly, the tone is completely different. 1.7 was all about a fun sandbox world to explore, monsters to slay and rich secret stashes of gems hiding under the ground. It was whimsical. Who ever complained "Hey why do these animals keep spawning around my house?!"
Until suddenly someone said the game wasn't hard enough. Now they shoved realism down everyone's throats like our knees are bleeding. The tone became oh man up, this is a hard world now if you can't handle it go back to your creative mode. What's wrong with a world of whimsy? Why can't we have our sheep we punch for their wool? The game has become another brown generic sims, terraria mutant child.
Minecraft has an identity crisis these days. Its not really an RPG and not really a sandbox anymore. I would say its more of a sh!tty mix of the two now really. So the version I play is Skyrim. I quit playing when 1.0 was released. Game ceased to be fun when it was apparent you were a Wizard! Just like Harry Potter! Ya brah I put on my robe and wizard hat! Lets get to enchanting, brewing some potions, and fighting some dragons!
Minecraft players: The only players on Earth who consider the BETA version to be better than the full release. I'm on 1.0 because I know the difference.
It'd be nice to amass enough blocks for a serious construction using these templates. Instead of having fake temples and castles, I could have real fake temples and castles <3
PostAblindmind1:Tnt can also be uses to see caves underground...unless they removed that bug.
Malacodor: With enough TNT you can see caves without using bugs.
I play Alpha 1.1.2_01 everonce and a while, and when I show my friends how buggy early MP was, we play Alpha 1.2.3_04.
I really don't see why any Beta version is better than another from 1.0 to 1.7, excluding early Beta SMP instability.
i stayed in beta 1.7.3 because it has everything of the new updates except the "the wonderful random enchantments and the new snow biome trees in every biome"
The majority of people playing on older versions seem to use the argument of "I don't like potions/enchanting/the end/other new feature."
How many topics is it going to take to knock some sense into people and get them to realize that they don't have to utilize those features? Even if you don't want to accept that you don't have to use those features, just please stop creating these threads.
wow i read everything and so far this is what i see.
1.0.0 people:you are douches not all but most because all you are saying is "man up" or "you'er missing so much". don't you we know that we'er missing the potions, sprinting, and etc.also just because we don't like something doesn't mean we are afraid
downgraders:i don't see any problems but I recommend 1.7.3 because redstone is probably better with pistons and not much has been added to mess up the game
As others have said, you DON'T have to do those things. You can do whatever you like in Minecraft and that's why many people love the game. I mean I personally think that the updates are awesome. That's just me because, there's MORE stuff to do. I have more stuff to build with, I have more reasons to go out and explore, I mean had Notch not have added these things the main crisis today would be that Minecraft would be too boring to a lot of people, (not stereotyping but, that's probably true that most but, yes I'm just estimating).
On that note though, if you're playing single player, you really have no reason to complain about the RPG elements(because it's so far out of the way, that you never really need to ever use them), and I feel like if you're playing 1.4, you're probably playing singleplayer regardless. Man up.

Minecraft 1.0.0 is Minecraft.
Why
It's fun and you get lot's of EXP.

I think it's pretty funny that everyone updated to V1.0... Ooohhh Mooshrooms, how will I ever live without Mooshrooms?
Oh wait that's right... I have the cubic chunk mod installed and my height-map is 4000 not 256.
Also hunger was a great addition to Minecraft.
Good additions:
- Pistons
- Hunger
Bad additions:
- Useless NPCs
- Useless experience bar
- Broken swamps
- The 'end'
I will admit, after 1.7.3 more bad additions started to get added than good but the hunger bar is definitely a GOOD addition.

Don't you dare bring Terraria into this. It's both challenging and fun!
