You start a new world, pop up a sign and put your town name and population. The sign is optional. You start with a population of 2.
To create a new villager for your town, it will require a lot of food.
192 food points to create a new villager(sacrifice it in fire/lava).
NOTE: you cannot use any food that has a chance of food poisoning, e.g. raw meat, zombie flesh etc, with the exception of fish.
Quick reference for food points:
Bread - 64
Cakes - 32
Cookies - 192
Melon Slices - 192
Mushroom Stew - 48
Cooked Chicken - 64
Steak - 48
Cooked Porkchop - 48
Raw Fish - 192
Cooked Fish - 64
Red Apple - 96
Golden Apple - 1
Rules:
- If your towns population drops to 0 you lose, obviously.
- The only way to create a new villager when your population is 1 is with a Golden Apple.
- You lose 1 population every time you die.
- For every 2 population you will need a home with at bare minimum: heat and a bed.
Optional Rules:
- Bury your dead. Nice reason to put in a graveyard.
- Name each family(aka every home would equal a family).
- Give each family a job, for example your next 2 populations' home could double as a blacksmith business.
I don't want to complicate the challenge too much so that's it for now. Of course post any ideas you think might add to the atmosphere of the challenge. Keep them simple though.
EDIT: I want to add in some simple rules for disease or natural disasters, some random element that also reduces population, pls toss me any ideas you have on that.
You could make it so that every time you leave the village, when you return you count the number of half-hearts you've lost. The number of half-hearts lost equals the number of people that have died. This wouldn't work right at the beginning but could kick in once your population has reached about 20 or so. It's just an idea, I might try it on my own save as an optional rule and report back if it works or not.
You're definitely onto something, but if you keep your food full you will always return with full hearts and having to count up numbers for lost pop won't be so appealing :sad.gif:. It needs to be something simple, like "oh crap a villager just died", instead of calculating.
But I like the idea that you, the player, ARE the population. So I'm going to play a bit with the addition of a few more rules myself:
- if the hunger bar runs out, you lose 2 population, even if you recover, the damage is done.
- if you die from hunger, you lose 3 more population.
Also thinking about creepers, if you ARE a population, and even if you survive a creeper explosion, maybe 1 pop lost if you take more than 2 hearts damage, 2 pop lost if the creeper explodes in town.
