During the creation of my latest map, I ended up having a need to transmit a block-updating signal across what would appear to be thin air. After a little thought, I came up with the following, which I call the Tarzan Trigger:
First, you rig up any trigger that relies on a block update to a string of unsupported Vine blocks. A Vine block not touching another solid block is entirely invisible, and even one touching doesn't really leave much sign of the trigger. In MCEdit, it looks like this:
Breaking or placing any block next to the chain triggers the entire chain to update (note that the trigger gravel in this case isn't needed, if you can place or update the blocks otherwise), realize it's not attached to anything, and vanish, which also updates any block in contact with the chain. In this example, we break the gravel block at the lower left, which updates the chain and in turn the floating gravel block at upper-right.
The falling gravel, in turn, can trigger a Wood Pressure Plate, or can land next to another object to trigger other block updates. In this case, it triggers Redstone power to TNT:
I would guess that the vines updating would be limited to loaded chunks. I doubt loading a chunk would update the newly loaded vines in a chain, after the loaded ones have already updated.

I would imagine that's an upper limit, but I haven't verified that it can go as far as that. I suspect it does, though, I can't imagine what would let it run 100 blocks and not 1000.
Very cool idea. But are vines completely invisible?
In his latest video, Vechs shows using floating ladders as a trigger, but I've noticed that floating ladders can be seen at certain angle & so are not completely invisible :sad.gif:
So, all I'm asking is are the vines also visible from some angle or are they completely invisible?
EDIT2: Also out, Grass Triggers - When Plants Attack.

More to come.
i would have to guess the maximum range of redstone
aka 300 blocks radius around the player
I haven't tested it thoroughly, but it's at least 100 blocks or so.
Not as far as I know, no. Some of the other stuff I'll be releasing in the next couple days is though.
Oh no, don't let him find out :biggrin.gif:
OMG YOU ******* WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!?!?!?
heh heh heh lol jk
it will be fun to see what he can do with this

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
