What is the best level for diamond mining. I looked on the wiki and found no difinitive answer. I have heard that having a 2x1 strip mine at level 13 is the best but I want to confirm that before I use my enchanted tools. Thank you!

I think thats about right, anywhere between level 18 and bedrock is diamond country, so i wouldnt stray above that. Also, check near lava. Ive found many diamonds near it.

You find diamonds near lava due to the exposed surface area created when a lava pool is generated. There's no more likelihood of placement (less, in fact, due to some diamond being overwritten by air). It's only more successful due to ease of access. And lava pools are really common at X=10/11.
