I cannot see ahead of me in a light-level zero environment on the brightest setting. Does anyone else have this problem? Make sure to vote based on what your game looks like on the "bright" setting.
EDIT: This is even with my computer screen brightness at its maximum. All it does is makes the window and surroundings brighter, not the game. Also, this assumes that I am not in void fog.
Not void fog. It can be a cave in a mountain for all it matters. I can't see anywhere in a pitch-black cave and on my friend's computer it's just a bit dim in the middle of a cave.
There are these things called Torches Try them out, they work wonderful!
I am aware but sometimes I don't have access to them and it's unfair that most people can see far ahead of them in a cave when I wouldn't know if a creeper were just a few meters in front of me.

The point I was trying to make was that even if I have torches, going up into a new unexplored branch of a cave becomes extremely dangerous as torchlight only goes so far. This makes me unable to know at all if there are creepers until it's too late.

Theres this thing called backing up, try it sometime!
I have been in this stage but it kept me thinking what if I am flooded inside the cave? Will get out alive? What is the best thing to do when that happens? pack instant sandbags? instant life jacket?

Happens below level 20. Gets worse the deeper you go.

Well, I understand it but I want either everyone to have to travel caves in pitch-black darkness (preferably), or everyone to be able to see in caves.
And optifine can turn off void fog, I think.
What are you talking about?
