I prefer cobblestone because it is plentiful and hardy. I do like brick, but by the time I have harvested enough of it to build something decent, I have already so much cobblestone from mining that there really isn't any point.
I think it would be cool if Brick was given a slightly stronger resistance to explosions, just for the extra motivation for people to take the time to harvest clay, make bricks and build with it. Otherwise using cobblestone makes more sense for the simple reason that it has the same durability and is much easier to get.
Many people do not relize the wonderful resource which is lapis.
Its blue, has a random look which makes it different from other blocks, uncommon to find so it proves your wealth.
I would use this as my floor XD.
Sexy as always.
Its not the only block I use, but its my fav!

Cobblestone, because getting 75k of any other material is ridiculous and I want a castle. I am also using dirt for the middle two rows of my four block thick outer wall.
After I remove hills from the construction site, I have half the material already. The rest of the stone comes from the mines.
I like bricks, but they don't fit the theme I have been working on since before clay became common.
And with the addition of fire resist potions, I plan to make a glass house in the lava ocean of the nether.
