So it's a brand new day. You get out of bed, and venture outside to do whatever it is you do outside your shelter. But you leave the door open. Soon as you return for the night, you find out to your horror that a creeper or ten was waiting for you to come how... and they have a blast greeting you.
So what would it be like if Mojang programmed creepers to do this?
No, this is not a suggestion. And I'm pretty sure the people at Mojang don't read posts like this so we're safe from this kind of thing happening.
Mobs will actually do this if you don't light it up - hostile mobs favor pathing to lower light levels just as passive mobs favor higher light levels (provided that there are no grass blocks, which always take priority over light levels):
/**
* Takes a coordinate in and returns a weight to determine how likely this
* creature will try to path to the block. Args: x, y, z
*/
public float getBlockPathWeight(int par1, int par2, int par3)
{
return 0.5F - this.worldObj.getLightBrightness(par1, par2, par3);
}
(that is, a light level from 0 to 1 is subtracted from 0.5 to give a weight of 0.5 to -0.5, and the game chooses the point with the highest weight out of a number of points to pick a new location for the random wander routine. Note also that the light level at night is 4 so mobs will favor pathing into a dark house any time of the day; during the day even if it is lit up the light level will be lower than 15 inside)
Simple you make a mechanism that open a hole that opens up a hole that has a flow of water sending all the creepers and other mobs into a pit of lava and some hoppers that loot their remains. For spiders that camp on your roof I would say just to make a mechanism that makes a temporary hole in the roof sending them into your house for a fair fight.

I never knew that. P.S. How do you get the special box?

But what if creepers were intelligent enough to know that you'll return to that location later? I presume they're that smart. After all, they will attempt to divebomb you from overhead cliffs... literally.

I put [ code ] [ /code ] tags around it (without spaces between the [ ]), which formats it with the monospaced font typically used when coding and allows consecutive spaces.
Note that if you use these tags in a post it is impossible to quote or edit it without breaking the formatting due to buggy forum software, as you can see in your reply.

They also won't follow you into lit areas from dark ones, I just discovered this today when a zombie villager refused to follow me inside my walls where I had a house for it, it just stood at the threshold. However they will follow you out of the shade into sunlight.

I've never seen that; did the house have a door? I sometimes do see mobs stop following me though a door, as if the door confuses them - but they WILL follow me if I remove the door (I've done this to get animals through doorways). Another place this can be seen is in abandoned mineshafts - mobs seem to think that rails are solid blocks or something (apparently this is intended but they are supposed to ignore rails if they are actively chasing you (see the first comment, the "works as intended" seems premature based on that but that's why the game has millions of bugs), which they only do when pushed onto them).

I don't think it was the door, I just realised that it was probably the Thaumcraft Arcane Lamp that lights up my base.

First, I wouldn't leave my door open, 'cause I use pressure plates. I also light up my house and usually light and fence off the surrounding area carefully.
But, hypothetically, had I neglected to do some of those things? I'd expect to see creepers (and other mobs), so if I came home to an open door, I'd be very cautious about going in, and probably walk the outside perimeter looking in the windows first. Suppose I neglected windows as well? Well then I'd probably knock out a couple of blocks to see what follows (staying back outside creepers' explosion radii). Once it was clear, I'd light it up and install some darned pressure plates! Survival 101, really.
I think this wouldn't be as simple as it sounds to program, because the game needs to identify the area(s) you spend time in the most as things you've built, then direct creepers toward any doors/entrances in that area. Which even if that's done, it just INCREASES the chances of creepers wandering through your carelessly open doors, something that's already entirely possible as some people will learn the hard way.
Let's cut to the cheese *Whispers "To the chase" * What do you mean?
I mean the post you originally replied to by GDog_0 ("NOOOO!! MY DIAMOND HOUSE!!! *ragequit*") was almost certainly a humorous exaggeration (in other words, a humorous form of hyperbole, not to be taken literally). Your response along the lines of, "why would anyone make a diamond house. I doubt you could in vanilla anyway." very much seemed like you took GDog_0's post literally, rather than as a funny exaggeration.

In short, I'm pretty sure GDog_0 was joking.
Of course I was I would NEVER make a full diamond house because 1: its too risky and 2: IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE!!!

Y'know? I bought Minecraft because I thought it was a war game where you had to create tactically placed proximity explosive devices...
Build a mechanism that pours lava into the non-wooden house to keep creepers burnt to a nice crisp.
You can just call me Canary.
How not to look like a total fool in the forum games
THAT WOULD BE A NIGHTMARE!!!
NOOOOOO!!!!! MY DIAMOND
HOUSE!!!!!

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

You must be talking about the creeper mod. That does not exist in vanilla minecraft.

I would carefully lure the creeper out of my house, of course!
Jeez, it's not that hard, guys.
The source of my intention isn't really crime prevention; my intention is prevention of the lie! Yeah, welcome to the Scatman's world!

Why would you make a diamond house. And i highly doubt you can make one in vanila.
See hyperbole.
