TheMasterCaver's World; a mod I made for my own use, which includes the "stats" display seen in the screenshots (actually, from a modified version which doesn't include some other features as I'm using that on my first world, with another world for the "full" version), as well as new biomes (54; 75 total in the Overworld, including variations), more underground variation (size of caves, ravines, mineshafts), and changes to some game mechanics, in addition to the amethyst tools. It is only for 1.6.4 though, although many of the new biomes were taken from 1.7, plus my own biomes/variants; it also adds new trees, flowers, and the 1.8 stones (only one new block is actually added; amethyst ore and blocks are variants of obsidian, and similarly my packed ice is a variant of ice, not a new block; new trees use combinations of the 4 existing wood types and saplings check the biome to determine what should grow, making some trees only growable in specific biomes, which includes ungrowable vanilla trees like swamp trees).
You must really love mining! That's (obviously) a really valuable thing in minecraft. I tend to get bored after long periods (Days or hours) of doing it. You must have at least 30 double chests of cobblestone!

Actually, when caving there is no need to accumulate any cobblestone; I don't return with any surplus at all - all of the cobble that I do mine is placed again, mostly to make walkable ledges in ravines, or staircases (I use ladders for temporary use), pillaring up to get to ore in the ceiling, and so on.
As they say, a picture is a thousand worlds:
Yes, I've mined more coal and iron ore than stone! The amount of coal is also a bit low relative to other ores since I only mined it all after 1.6 came out with the block of coal, a few months after I started this world (though I didn't really start caving until a couple months later, based on old backups). Note also the amount of cobblestone I placed - more than the amount of stone mined (due to mining the cobble itself after I pillared up, plus some from creeper explosions).
This illustrates the benefits of caving vs. branch-mining; even for diamond it would be more efficient in terms of pickaxe wear if I didn't mine every single vein of coal (in particular) and all of that coal gives you XP, unlike stone, and at about 200 blocks mined per diamond ore found that is well within the 2,100 uses you get per diamond used for repairing; caving also requires diamonds to repair other gear but as you can see I use my pickaxe far more than anything else, I don't even carry a shovel with me since I rarely have to mine any dirt/gravel:
(I actually used just one pickaxe for most of that, plus a maxed-out Fortune pickaxe for another 250,000 blocks (requiring even more repairs due to being only one unit at a time), thanks to the pre-1.8 repair system, which also explains how I made only three swords)
I rarely get more than a stack of cobble at any one time while caving, usually when exploring one of those very deep cave networks where the ceilings of many of the caves are only a block, if that, above lava (I mine through them until the floor becomes solid stone, or they come back up).
All of those ores I mined are also only a few percent of all ores in that world, which I have links to in my signature (surface and explored caves; they were made with MCMap, a mapping utility with the unique feature of only mapping caves if they have torches in them, thus it only shows what I explored; I even removed torches from mineshafts and strongholds so they don't show up, as well as modded MCMap itself to show a smaller and more realistic range around torches, which also reduces clutter from underground lakes and the surface under trees).
I gained 9584 XP in a single play session earlier this year while caving, which is the most XP I've ever gained in a single session since I added XP to my "inventory stats" mod, enabling it to be easily tracked (instead of comparing my score before and after; of course, vanilla only lets you see your score when you die):
However, I likely gained more XP in a session a few years ago (after the last post on this thread), as I mined nearly as many ores and killed more mobs; using the averages per ore I calculate that I gained 6230 XP from ores, as opposed to 6797 XP in the session above, where I gained 2767 XP from mobs; using the same average XP per mob this means I gained around 4186 XP from mobs in the session below for a total of around 10416 XP:
This would still be short of the 13331+ XP (slightly over 82 levels) I gained in one session while mining Nether quartz, which is also still my highest level reached (equivalent to around 71 levels in 1.8+ due to the changes to leveling up). Of course, if I played in 1.9+ I'd accumulate far more levels as my only use for XP would be Mending items and I easily gain far more XP than I'd need to keep them topped up; in my first world I've accumulated more than 3.7 million XP, which is around 305 levels in 1.8+ (the actual number of levels would be less due to Mending absorbing some of it):
(this is the latest screenshot I found in the thread for my first world, I continued playing some more after this)
For comparison, I average more than 5000 XP in an average play session (5400 in my current world since I started playing on it again; 5308 in another world over 121 sessions spent caving, with a total of 708515 XP gained, 642307 while caving)
(as I mentioned before, the raw XP gained is much better than the number of levels reached. I also do not consider using XP farms to be legit - you must have worked for the XP, as I did here by mining ores and killing naturally spawned mobs)
I try not to accumulate XP levels. With the exponential rise in each level cost it doesn't pay to have high levels if you do anything with them. I generally figure on some anvil work I want done and as soon as I get the levels nedded I spend them.
I think the highest I've ever gone was 48 or 49 before I came up with something to spend it on.

yes you are right.
but i hate how everyone on this thread is talking about their high levels and how they have lots of nice enchanted stuff while i can barely find any lapis lazuli to even use for enchanting

Go down to 11 and start tunnelling. Carry a bucket of water to harden the lava pools (place it near the lave then pick it back up rapidly). Lapis is scarce but I find more than I can use. Also so much redstone I make decorative blocks out of it. A good mining level and the spaces over the hardened lava saves you a lot of digging. Fortune III diamond pick with mending is a real help.

guess i need to acquire some levels first for a fortune I pickaxe lmao....
but then again i never once encountered a fortune enchantment when trying to enchant....?
My highest was after the dragon kill... did not bother to bring table/shelves etc with me.
Otherwise I try to keep it under 30. When mining, I almost always use silk touch, so no xp gained mining.
Far as lapis goes, a single vein of it can easily yield over a stack with fortune 3.
Far as getting F3 goes - a pick placed on table may say efficiency or unbreaking, but there is a darn high chance there will be fortune there as well. Getting it to specifically say 'fortune' on the table is fairly rare.
Note that if your hard work pick is ST, and F3 pick is only used at the base as needed, F3 can easily be iron.

ah thanks very much
but i lack levels like mad and cant afford to take the risk you know when enchanting
The highest for me was about the low 70s, just after the Ender Dragon fight.
That was in 1.7.10. The last two times I fought the dragon in 1.12.2, I did not get as much XP as some of it fell into the Portal. Both times I landed the killing blow while he was over it.

They made it more difficult to level up in 1.8; prior to then you'll get 78 levels if you collect all the XP but since then you'll get only 68 (the Wiki still claims it gives 78 but if you use the formulas here you'll find that 68 levels requires 11978 XP, just slightly below the 12000 the dragon gives).
Also, XP that falls into the portal isn't lost; it will appear directly over the world spawn point and you can go pick it up, which gave me a full 78 levels compared to 71 from the XP I collected while in the End (provided that you can get there within 5 minutes; I always stay at spawn so it can literally appear inside my base).
I’m currently building up to see how high I can get, I’m currently at level 105 and I’m using a skeleton spawned farm, I also use the bones to grow sugarcane, to make paper, to trade for emeralds. And I have no plan of stopping at my current level, I’m gonna go as high as I’ll go until I fall from a distance too high and loose all my levels because I thought I could survive with feather falling 4, that happened to me when I was building a giant tree and fell of and lost like 96 levels or something.
Update: I got to level 200 then beat the ender dragon and got to 207. I used them for a good diamond armor set.

I think my highest was 55 one time. That was pre-xp farm and ender dragon. nowadays I get to 30 and enchant due to dying
frequently beyond 40.

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
The highest XP level I have ever gotten was 122, I sat there for 2 1/2 hours farming from a skeleton spawner.
385 lvl xp from vanilla xp farms, running for 2 days
On two recent Nether Quartz hunts i reached 63 and 67 respeticvely. My highest non-farm levels ...
Mintutor now works in 1.13!

I hit level 400 or so. The server I used to play on had an extremely efficient gold XP farm, and I AFK'd there for like 8 hours.

I have gotten like 90 levels from my guardian farm and the ender dragon!
MY Highest was 96. I got it manly from being afk in a large cave I dug then turning on the redstone lights and just killing all of them.
