So I was just returning from my mine and I hear lightning as I near the surface. I decide to go to a bed to make the storm clear up. When I get up above the ground I hear fire burning?
Holy *$! my barn is on fire! NOTCH!!!!
Thank goodness fire spread was nerfed or else my whole barn would have burned down and all my animals would be precooked food items. (Getting animals to a survival island was no small feat mind you) I was able to put it out eventually, but not after I nearly killed myself jumping a few out a window after being set on fire.
One chicken did bite the dust. RIP clucky.
Interestingly enough, the reason the fire did not get put out immediately by the rain was likely because the roof was made of stone which prevented water from reaching it ... The reason I made the roof out of stone was in hopes of preventing this kind of thing.
I'd have to say the above two instances would be a rarer occurrence then having it hit the broad side of my barn.
Note to self, stay indoors during a thunderstorm.
Lesson number one: A glowing creeper on your 3rd or 4th night is not a glitch.
Lesson number two: Do not make a giant wooden tower with your storage room of valuables near the top. (I kept gold and diamonds unused redstone, etc up there)
Lesson number three: you CAN get struck by lightning while under a tree.

Wait, I didn't think chests could burn. Are you saying I could have lost all of the diamonds, eyes of ender, slime balls and other assorted valuables I was storing in the barn loft?
Charged creepers actually have an extended blast radius, so they can hit you from further away and their countdown timer activating is apparently tied to being in their blast radius.
The player is the only thing from stopping Minecraft not being much fun anymore. Imagine if all the mobs had free range, and had intelligent AI. Creepers would **** up the world the first night. So, imagine if it was lightning all the time. Now imagine that I had nothing to stop a creeper from ****ing my **** up. Congratulaions, you imagined my first day with my house. 5 hours down the goddamn drain. Oh... I may have lost my point there....

Back after a long while, so yay? Because the forum is being picky over 12 pixels over the limit in width, here's a link to my signature!
I haven't actually seen lightning as yet, but I was playing with a friend on his server, and was happily arranging some blocks when I heard a noise. My friend who was facing me started killing himself laughing and I turned around to find a flaming crater about 3 blocks behind me.
Apparently I had a near-Notch experience.

Anyone else have any close calls with lightning?
A view of the damage.
Good as new!
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
Thanks, I try.
I've never seen one of those, fortunately or unfortunately. Sounds like the most dangerous thing you could encounter in Minecraft.

So don't engage them without a bow.
