Endermen- cool mob, bro. The only thing that actually concerns me about them is their block lifting abilities. What types of blocks CAN and CANNOT be moved by endermen?
A quick survey of the forum proved only mildly useful, so let me summarize my other web findings (clicky for linky):
--Here it is claimed that they can move almost anything (including adminium!) except for a few things like beds, slabs, and stairs.
--Here is confirmation of obsidian and player-place blocks being moved.
--Here is a thread showing endermen happily moving TNT around. Oh, those Endermen!
--Here's a partial list of things they cannot move. Bed, you may sleep well tonight!
Why do we care? Overall, a few endermen aren't too big of a nuisance. However, when concentrated, they rip **** up. My monster grinder no longer works because light leaks in while water leaks out. Knowing the details of endermen will help us change designs appropriately.
Please add info from your experiences; I'll update this post for everyone's reference.
Update 5:
To nerf, or to un-nerf? That is the question. Notch tweets "Endermen suck because they're annoying, and because I nerfed them and made them too easy. I shall fix this."
Update 4:
THE NERFING, IT BEGINS! 1.9 Pre-release is out, and the minecraft wiki now has an early listof the new, limited range of blocks that can be molested by endermen.
Update 3, from Notch: Notch, via Twitter: "By the way, I will nerf the endermen block carrying. It was a horrible idea."
Update 2:
The Minecraft Wiki has updated the Enderman page to include more info on what blocks can/can't be picked up as well as structure-protecting tips. Some of the info seems contradictory to previous accounts, however (e.g. it has been reported that chests can be picked up, but the wiki lists that they cannot.)
Well I loled when a Enderman took one of my windows
This happened to me. I was looking out a window; there was an enderman and a skeleton right there. The enderman took out my window and the skeleton shot me. Bastards.
IMHO, that kind of stuff is awesome. However, it seems like there is no way to "ender-proof" a building like a monster grinder. They can move bedrock
Yeah built a castle in creative switched it over to survival and next thing i know 5 endermen standing next to the side of the castle taking blocks out of it. The thing that bothers me about there kelpto nature is that is seems to serve no purpose what so ever, other then to scare and annoy you. What do they need the blocks for or are they just griefing scum?

Wow, mob teamwork!
I'll bet if you build your mob system entirely out of furnaces, you'll have no problems.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Ender Dragons now drop Dragon Tears, which as we all know, turn into jellybeans! (When placed on your crafting table.)

I go back and forth about the fun/challenge/annoyance of Endermen moving blocks. I think it's a cool NPC ability, but as it stands now, it is completely unrestricted and serves no purpose. It would be amazing (but challenging for Mojang) if Endermen would build structures for various purposes (imagine an EnderTotem that spawns them! Whoa!), etc. etc.
Anyway, the purpose of this thread is not to bring up the great enderdebate, but discuss what blocks, if any, can stop their Ender-snatching.
Tangentially related: When I first started playing minecraft, I assumed that zombies would try to dig through dirt to get to you and was scared to make a house out of dirt. That would have been kind of cool.
I used to think the same, which reminds me: At one point I read (somewhere... so it was a rumor at best, but likely just idle speculation) that Endermen would only move dirt/grass, gravel, sand and maybe 1 or 2 other "soft" blocks.
so, is there anywhere a FULL list that shows what blocks they can't pick up? Notch, FIX IT!!! I don't want endermen taking apart my prison for them, made out of obsidian!
I hate that they move everyblock. becouse you cant stopp it etc. But with creepers you can hide and such inside your home tht they wount explode and take your home down. but with enderman they just take it.
Endermen, what a great addition to minecraft.
1. They arent scary, just annoying zombies that teleport.
2. They remove blocks and stuff you created, passively.. Even if you dont aggro them...
Great. Taking the creative build-aspect out of minecraft is the absolute worst thing they could do. Whats the point in building anything now that it can just be "picked up" passively?
Creepers is another thing, they aggro you and YOU are responsible if they blow up your house. (you forgot to close the door, didnt listen to the hisssss, or simply fumbled around and missed them with your sword)
Endermen just do it passively without any player provocation what so ever.
The appeal of Minecraft is 80% to build stuff, WHILE in survival mode because it adds more tension and value to whatever you manage to build, knowing that every resource was manually gathered.
Endermen just screw you over for no reason. Why not add a Creeper 2.0 that randomly blows up 15sec after it spawns? Why not have it sprint as well? Why not have every creeper in the chunk blow up at once?
Same concept, ruining your creative accomplishments for no reason without the fault of the player at all.
Sucks.
Annoying is the only word I have to describe them. I mean really, whats the POINT of having them move blocks? One of Notch's philosophies was that bad things would only happen around the player. This continues to damage Minecraft's orginal feel.
Well, a funny story that happened to me. I was was mining underground in a village. Didn't have food and had just run out of wood. The sun was coming out when I had come back up in the house I had mined in. There was nothing outside but masses of mob loot, and an Ender Pearl right by a block of wood. The village was at the beginning of a desert, and the nearest forest was 40 blocks away. All this from a mindless mob. Friendly sentient wood-delivering Enderman?
To be honest? You guys are ridiculous. I had an ear-to-ear grin when I read Notch's article on 'fear'. The mob isn't quite as scary as I expected it to be, but it still seems to fit the bill.
These guys will add a lot to the game, I believe. Keep in mind that this is a "Creative" "Survival" game, mates. From MC's main bloody page: "Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens."
The solution to your fears? Sleep. Sleep will do it. I'd personally prefer a "teleport" at the onset of dawn, despawning them, instead of an ignoble death by fire. I'd find it cool for these to be considered the "souls of the lost", and perhaps they faintly remember what it is to build...
Just remember. Herobrine is still somewhere out there. And perhaps he's the one to have released these Lost Ones.
Not scary at all.
Just annoying.
Hit it a couple times with a diamond sword and kaput before it can do anything to you.
F*ing griefers destroying things when you are or are not around.

Before I start making furnaces en masse, are they confirmed "can't lifts"? Chests, for example, may be moveable...
Yeeeeaaaahhh... about that...
I lol'd. But seriously, we need to know what they will take so we can build useful mob grinders.
Finally a practical use for moats in minecraft...
1: Put a moat around your house
2: build your house on/below water
3: build your house in the sky
1. They arent scary, just annoying zombies that teleport.
2. They remove blocks and stuff you created, passively.. Even if you dont aggro them...
