I made a new survival world and thought "Maybe I should play the game like I'm supposed to for once", meaning in survival and not just messing around and exploding everything. So I did the most sensible thing first-- got some logs. I went looking for a place to make a house, and saw a structure in the distance. I went over to it and was greeted by a fat ugly villager in my face that fell off a roof. Well, after exploring a little bit, I noticed a wheat farm and took a bunch of wheat. Then I saw a house with logs on the corners, and I took the logs. I made some tools and got cobblestone out of the houses. I kept one bigger house to live in. I stole the torches as well from other houses. Tl;dr: I exploited the village.
I was thinking "this is too easy" as I sat in my pre-made house lit up nicely, holding 35 bread and looking at the 5 stacks of wood in my inventory. I had everything I could need right from the start.
Is this cheating? I hardly had to do any work aside from chopping up houses and plucking wheat.
It's not cheating... the game provided all that for you. I'm kind of hoping they will update the villiage and npc stuff so that there is some kind of penalty or trade-off for trying to take their wheat and live in their houses though.
For me though I like to make my own shelter and stuff so I don't even care to make use of that stuff.
As everyone else stated, you simply collected it so it is not cheating. Cheating would be using a third party tool to modify your save and instantly place items in your inventory. When the villagers get some A.I. they probably won't thank you for it though :tongue.gif:
No it's not cheating because NPC villages are spawned naturally as of 1.8. You have a choice: either loot the villages or cooperate with the villagers. I usually loot, the villagers don't seem to mind. :laugh.gif:

I ran and found a village my first night of 1.8 pre-release and have to admit I did take out the floor of one house. Oh and moved into another. And used their furnaces. And took over their biggest wheat farm, which by the way is now half melons and pumpkins. . .
But then I put the floor back. Lit the place better then it was before I got there and repaired their little gravel roads.
I've since made my own house on the hill overlooking them. (and my farm. . . possession is 9/10's of the law)
And sadly they will never populate this village since it's generated 1.8 :sad.gif:
You cannot cheat in single player Minecraft. You can spawn in an infinite amount of every item and you're still not cheating. Nobody else is affected by it, it is totally up to what you feel comfortable doing. It's only a problem if you claim to have done something legit when you spawned items or whatever. But that isn't cheating, that's lying.
So if you feel it's too easy and is ruining your fun, don't do it. Otherwise, go for it.
