it's pretty cool... but what's the point since you are using ladders anyway?
Theres no real point other than being able to do it. I wouldn't put a new one in my world because its not that much faster and does still rely on a bug, but if you have an old one you want to fix this is how.
... I do support it getting fixed. The programmer in me demands it ...
Bad programmer! Do not sacrifice product quality by mistaking 'unintended feature or use case' for 'actionable bug.' Clean up your code, but remember that your you're serving your users, not your own preferences.
If you accidentally make something better than you intended, (as Notch has in this case) then take credit for it, instead of hurting your users by reducing functionality.
Don't confuse Notch's recent mistakes with good game design, either.
