Ok that makes sense that draining it will get rid of them. But I see you didn't get rid of all of them for a farm. Very cool. Either chicken cooker or blaze farm would be cool. I say your choice.
I've finally finished placing all of the signs for the guardian farm!
For some reason, I got a weird moire effect when I tried to take a screenshot and the signs in the far corner of the mob farm refused to render in. (there are there though, I promise)
I've also gone on a little tour of my world and taken a few screenshots of my other things.
Here's some pictures from my main mesa base area.
This is the saloon. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. There are several bedrooms in the upper floor that each have a skylight in the roof above the door, meaning this one building actually counts as several valid houses according to the villager's AI. There's also a small potato patch for them in case their feeling hungry/romantic.
(Unfortunately, I forgot to take a pic of the blacksmith)
This is where my bed is. It's pretty humble. It's still the same hole-in-the-wall base I made on my first night.
The mesa's being made of solid stained clay does make it look really nice compared to most hole houses though. And the bedsheets are made of 100% silk from these friendly fellows:
At the main base I also have some basic auto-farms for all of the crops (except coco which I haven't found yet)
As well as my 'emergency ration' farm which has a small amount of every crop 'just in case'
Here's the nether on my world.
There're cobble roads through the nether leading me from one portal to the next.
The good news is, I completed my blaze farm while I was here. The bad news is that I completely derped about taking work-in-progress pics while I was doing it. So, uh, here's a picture of some blaze feet.
The blaze farm is luckily very near to the portal to my desert village (which will eventually be converted to adobes). This is the village where I've decided to build my chicken cooker. It's really nice, it's on the edge of a river and straddles a desert & savannah with a view of the mesa in the distance.
But first...
My cattle are apparently sick of waiting for me to build them a pen and have taken matters into their own hands (hooves?)
And, I found sheep! Finally!
The sheep seemed significantly less exited then I was about this.
Ok, on to the cooker.
I used mr.crayfish's design (I also tried unsuccessfully to improve it, so don't copy how it's build from this picture, it doesn't work properly here)
Luckily though, an enderman building inspector was able to drop by just after dawn and explain to me where I went wrong.
He did confiscate a sand block that wasn't up to code at one point last night, but hey, that's his job.
I'm thinking of building a statue around the chicken cooker in the form of a chicken-headed sphinx. And maybe rigging the on/off switch up to a 'sacrificial pool'. (I'd throw an offering into a well where it would trigger a pressure plate & then the statue would spew flaming chickens at my feet). That'll both hide it, and make it fit in with my vision for the village a bit better.
After that, I may either do a bit of exploring & circumnavigate the savannah in the hopes of finding a savannah m biome and horses, or maybe get back to work on the guardian farm.
That's what a bucket is for. You just use it in front of you for a second to breath.
It's worth the time to place those dirt blocks as manual demolition will take considerably more time. The ability to drop those walls in seconds is great. I learned this trick when building an underwater base before those monuments existed. Smaller scale than removing the water for a monument, so I would imagine it'd save even more time. If you do another underwater project I suggest giving it a try.

Thanks for the helpful comment!
I know it's part of game mechanics, but I prefer not to use torches/buckets to make temporary air pockets (or more permanent air pockets with signs/doors for that matter). Even with respiration enchantments to help extend things, I find the drowning bar way too distracting to be able to stay underwater for any serious length of time while holding my breath. It's a bit of a moot point for me now though, the area's been drained for a while and my farm is about halfway done. But if anyone else is draining a monument, your tip could help them out a lot.
Doing things your way probably would have been more efficient, but it just doesn't fit with how I'm comfortable playing. I mine fairly inefficiently too. I dig 3x3 tunnels at level 12 rather then a more normal 1x2 tunnel. Otherwise I get seriously claustrophobic when I'm underground.
I've finally connected the guardian farm area to my main base by rail (at level 12). I've also done some nether tunnels (I like to dig a long tunnel, and pop back to the over world at various intervals to see if there's anything interesting) And I've managed to find a plains biome next to a roofed forrest. I'm going to build fairytale type buildings in the roofed forrest. Builds like the three little pigs houses (with pigs), the gingerbread house from Hansel & Gretel (floor made of cake, hopefully with a named witch inside), Rapunzel's tower and maybe a few others.
The mob farm is about half built and I'm smoothing out the floor at the bottom. The guardian farm is on at least one slime chunk so I'm constantly having to stop clearing rock to deal with the suckers. I do have plenty of slime now though. I may not bother putting down half slabs just because slime is so useful and I'm getting plenty of prismarine from the farm without doing it.
I've gotten so much slime that I now have a much faster & more entertaining way to get down to basement level.
Weeeeee!

(picture taken mid-bounce)
In addition to loads of prismarine (already!) I also have stacks & stacks of raw fish. I hope I get plenty of fishermen to trade with once I build & populate the city area. I'm now also looking forward to searching around and finding a jungle biome, I'll be able to tame even the greediest cat!
Sorry, I'm not sure what happened to the 'spoiler' tags in my last post. I tried to fix it but wasn't able to so I deleted the little soap opera that was tanking up a lot of space in the post.
The Blaze farm is very usefull! From now the coal is just for torches because blaze rods burn 12 items. Lava buckets or coal blocks last longer, but the stacks are only 64.
The guardian farm is so close to being done! I'm just finishing up the main spawning area at the moment. 1-2 more evenings of playing and I'll be able to start on Atlantis! This has to be the most prolific farm I've ever built. I didn't do a proper timed test, but roughly 1 guardian per second, by my estimation, is dropping down onto my hoppers. I've extended the prismarine shard chest in my sorting room because I was a bit worried about it filling up. And I have more stacks of fish then I've ever had in survival before.
Here's a view from the observation window in the side of the farm. You can see the spawning area about half done here and a huge number of guardians being pushed into the death hole.
And here's the tube that they fall down through to their deaths.

It took several tries before I was able to snap a screenshot of one in free fall. You can also see a group of them in the area above with their tails glitching through the blocks slightly.
When the farm is completely done I'll add another world download to show it off.

I have more than enough coal as it is, ha! But you're right about the blaze rods being more efficient. I've been using them all the time since I made the farm. I may make a nicer looking afk area for the blaze farm with some stone bricks, paintings and carpet too.
I'm very happy to announce that the guardian farm is finally done! I've updated the OP with a link to the world download in case anyone wants to check it out.
I have more prismarine than I know what to do with lol!
I'd also like to introduce you all to Melvin.
Who's a good slime? You are! Yes you are!
Whoa, easy there big fella!
Goodnight buddy, I'll see you tomorrow.
I plan on building a temple in the atlantis city above, I've decided that Melvin will be the temple's oracle.
I had the itch to explore again last night and I decided to circumnavigate the savanna in the hopes of finding a savannah m biome and/or a jungle. I packed my inventory with an 'explorers kit' (a stack of gravel, a stack of wood, a stack of coal, a bucket of water, a stack of cooked fish, a stack of bones, a stack of raw fish, a stack of wheat, a saddle, a dozen leads, some fencing and my weapons & tools).
I wasn't able to find a savanna m, so no floaty mountains :-(. But I was able to find what looks to be a very large jungle biome and an equally expansive desert bordering the (surprisingly small for a large biome world) normal savanna.
I'd brought along fish, bones, wheat, leads & saddles just in case I found tameable animals and I wasn't disappointed! I'm happy to announce that my western themed village is now officially a one horse town!
Here's a picture of when we were resting for the night in the pueblo village before heading back to the mesa.
He seems like a good horse too, very fast and can jump an impressive distance. I managed to clear 3 of the 4 rivers I needed to cross to get home with no problem (the one fail was probably my own mistake, when I was getting used to the controls). It's my first horse & I want to give him a good name. He's fast so I was thinking of naming him after a famous racehorse like Northern Dancer or Secretariat. I may just name him Spot though, it seems to suit him.
I built a horse barn in the western town for him when I got back but I forgot to take pictures of it.
I'd really like to find donkeys eventually too so that I can breed mules. I'm planning to build a post office in the western town and mules seem like a perfect fit for the 'pony express' because they're faster than donkeys, but they can still carry stuff.
For the buildings in the Atlatis cit you shold use white, blue and light blue stained glass(maybe paines, 6 for 17 :-) ).
Good tip, I think I'll do that! I haven't used much stained glass in builds before, it will give a unique look to the area.
Here's a picture of the horse barn I built for Spot. (I also trekked all the way back to bring a second horse for eventual breeding)
I put the barn in the place the blacksmith used to be in the western town. I was never happy with how it looked, but I like the look of the barn, it's made of red and white stained clay and oak.
Even the farmer approves!
And Spot seems to be enjoying both his new pen & the company.
I also did a bit of work making the blaze farm & nearby portal area a bit nicer looking. (obviously still a work in progress)
Maybe I'll add a small garden of netherwort out front.
I also mentioned that I found a jungle recently. I went back, intending to cruise down a river until I could find some ocelots to tame. And I found something I've never found in survival before:
I heard a skeleton inside, but he was nice enough to shoot himself to death by repeatedly walking over a trip wire.
I'm going to spend a bit of time here clearing most of the underbrush & small trees from the area. I'll be keeping the larger trees though. I plan on building an Mayan themed village here. As much as I like to explore, it feels a bit more productive to clear land & build rather than wander aimlessly through the jungle. I'm still keeping raw fish on my hot bar just in case some curious ocelots drop by though.
Here's how far I am with clearing the area. (sorry about the quality of the pic)
I also found a spider dungeon right near the surface! There was a small cave entrance I came across while clearing brush & when I went down to light it up, the dungeon was right around the first bend! No ocelots yet, but I'd still call it a very lucky few days.
Thanks!
And I just have a small update because I've been incredibly busy lately. I've done a few basic buildings for the Mayan village. They're made mostly stone brick, mossy stone brick, cracked stone brick and chiselled stone brick and stone brick stairs. I'm starting with just the smaller modest village houses to get a feel for the style
I won't be adding doors though until I can wrangle a pair of villagers over to the area.
While I was building the basic houses I noticed some movement on the other side of the clearing.
Heeeer kitty kitty kitty.
*weird clicky sound people make when they see wild animals* Here kitty kitty. Don't be shy, I have fish for you!
Finally!
I have no idea for a name though. IRL I'm not really a cat person (I don't hate them or anything. I'm just ambivalent).
I did a bit of work converting the spider dungeon into a temple. When it's done it will have an Mayan pyramid look to it and the top will be open to the spider dungeon below. There will be a half slab lip around the edge to keep the spiders from going everywhere at night though.
Here I am standing on the lip during the day:
And here's the view at night:
I'll also be adding a market square, more houses and a mesoamerican ball court. Because I have no intention of spawning the Wither in my world, I'll also be making a big wooden display rack in the centre of town with the blackened & burned skulls of sacrificial offerings (i.e.: wither skulls) on it. I don't currently have any wither skulls, but I think it would add a unique touch to the area so I plan on (eventually) killing enough of them to do it. (I'll need about 9-12 skulls for the design of the display rack I'm planning).
Or I may finally stop procrastinating and build the Atlantis village I've been planning for a while. I tend to have too many projects on the go but that's how I keep from getting bored. Sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders for creativity.
Aztec Update!
I've finished about 2/3 of the aztec village.
Here's the village houses (I may still add a few more)
I'm mostly done the Temple to the Spider Goddess. I'm not 100% happy with it yet, but it just needs a bit of tweaking. On a related note, I may have bred too many cat's. But to make things easier, I've named them all Boots.
I'm fairly happy with how the Ullamaliztli court turned out. I may replace the 'stone ring' goals with nether brick & nether quartz stairs though.
Ullamaliztli, was a team game played a bit like a cross between volleyball & basketball. The object of the game is to keep the ball in play as long as possible by volleying it back & forth using your elbows, knees & hips. You can also automatically win by bouncing the ball through the stone ring. The slanted area is out of bounds for the players but they can bounce the ball along the angled walls.
Of course if you lose a game of Ullamaliztli, you'll wind up with your head on the Tzompantli!
As you can see, no one's lost yet.
(ok, ok. I just haven't gotten any wither skulls to decorate it with yet)
I'm also happy to say that my Aztec jungle village is now populated! I built a rail over to a (more or less) nearby savanna village and transported a pair of them over.
My hoard of cats made it a bit annoying, but I was able to get them there eventually.
After placing all of the doors in the village & giving them both a nice quantity of carrots & wheat. They started expressing a bit of affection towards each other.
I'm sure I'll have nice population soon.
I love looking at other people's survival worlds! And I especially love seeing People's Guardian farm decorative designs. (Personally, I would have used sand instead of gravel. It's easier to get I think and there's no flint problem).

Spruce doors would look better in the village, in my opinion. (No need of screenshotscreenshot, i saw your hhotbar.)
I was think of replacing them with acacia doors actually, but to be honest the jungle doors have grown on me. I also like the idea of using 'local' materials in things I've built. In addition to that, I haven't found any spruce yet. The palette of woods I have to work with at the moment is: oak, acacia, jungle & dark oak.
I realized recently that I need to trek all the way back out to where I found the roofed forrest, because the last time I was there, I forgot to grab birch saplings and I'm planning on using birch doors for the houses in the atlantis build.

I agree sand or glass would have looked nicer around the outside, but for me gravel was a bit easier. I already had several chests of it when I started and the entire ocean is covered by a layer of gravel so it was less trouble to get more locally vs. boating back to the mesa or desert. And yeah, having so much of it break into flint was a pain in the rear, but at least I have enough flint for 4 double chests of arrows now. (there's always a silver lining)
Because I was working non-stop on the guardian farm for so long I've decided to continue fooling around with other projects for a while before going back to atlantis. Since I'm planning a mini-expedition out to the roofed forest anyway, I'll be cutting a winding pathway through the dark & creepy woods (protected by fences) and building a few fairy tale type buildings along the way.
Eventually I'd like to build: the 3 little pigs houses, baba yaga's chicken foot house, the "old-lady-who-lives-in-a-shoe"'s shoe house, the house made of gingerbread (cake) from Hansel & Gretel, and maybe Rapunzel's tower.
Hey just an idea for your head wall, if you get blown up by a charged creeper (the one struck by lightning) or let it blow a zombie you can drop your head as an item on the floor in exchange of dying so if you can make charged creeper farm (Since you have a lot of cats making only creeper sorter is a lot easier!) and die to it with a zombie you can collect that heads!
Ok that makes sense that draining it will get rid of them. But I see you didn't get rid of all of them for a farm. Very cool. Either chicken cooker or blaze farm would be cool. I say your choice.

This is great! Do you not take fall damage if you fall on slime blocks?

Hey just an idea for your head wall, if you get blown up by a charged creeper (the one struck by lightning) or let it blow a zombie you can drop your head as an item on the floor in exchange of dying so if you can make charged creeper farm (Since you have a lot of cats making only creeper sorter is a lot easier!) and die to it with a zombie you can collect that heads!
