I'm thinking switching to the human challenge and starting all over, but only with one core mod for tech and magic: IC and Thaumcraft. I'll still keep NEI, chicken chunks, and maybe Pams Harvestcraft or more foods.
That's funny because my setup is almost exactly the same only I'm using Ars Magica instead of Thaumcraft (I can't get it to work). Great minds think alike! Have fun!

Wow, a lot of posts came overnight... but I got a working modpack going, containing Thaumcraft, IC, NEI, Chicken Chunks, Treecapatior, Forge Microblocks and the rest of Forge multipart (which shows up in NEI for some reason), and the mod version of Optifine! Oh, almost forgot to mention Harvestcraft. Anyways, I'll get a log of stage one coming soon!
Right right. Sorry, orange! Should I call you mike still? Forgive me for not remembering your name. It's not personal, I just have a hard time remembering names sometimes.
I can't wait to see your progressions!
We're also hopefully getting 3 more testers from the Refugee to Regent challenge thread!
And something weird happened in my creative world. I was trying to figure out a way to make the town hall block from AW2 look at least sorta snazzy and wanted to test my idea to make sure workers still had access to it, so I spawned in a worker and called him Fred.
Fred had a few issues with getting to a safe home area, so I re-packed him and made sure his home was set to be inside the tiny little structure I plan to build around the block. I was also messing around with Fred and seeing how he responded to "oh, look, there's suddenly more work for you to do."
Fred somehow managed to clone himself twice and now I can't make the three Freds despawn. Every time I repack a Fred, a new one spawns, even if I repack all of them.
It's a mess. Thankfully this is not my survival world.
This is why I always use creative to test ideas.
Sidenote: I'm calling the group of clones Freds because they even retain the name I gave to the original Fred as well as occupation and tool (a diamond hoe).
I must learn how he figured out this cloning mischief so I can prevent it.

Hi, I'm Senseidragon from over on the Refugee to Regent Challenge thread. I've come over with the intent on trying out this challenge with a large assortment of mods to see what plays well together.
I don't particularly advise everyone to try to necessarily use the same mods - or by any means the sheer number of mods I am using. I've just been at this a while and I like experimenting with interactions between mods and toying with potential progressions through them.
Here is a list (hidden in a spoiler to save your eyes) of the mods I am currently running without issue. It is roughly grouped into categories:
I also intend to play it in a sort of hardcore fashion, in that I have naturalRegeneration set to false, I also use Harcore Tweaks to adjust food so that only food that restores 8 or more hunger (4+ full shanks) will restore any health at all, and will only restore 1/3 of whatever the hunger value of the food was. So most berries/bread/snack type foods will restore hunger and saturation, but not health. Only more involved meals like Pizza or Hearty Breakfasts will also provide actual healing. This provides incentive to work through Pam's Harvestcraft and create some of the bigger meals. It prevents heal spamming by the simple fact that after eating a large meal, you are generally completely saturated and cannot eat again for quite some time. The largest meal possible in Pam's will only heal 3 hearts of health, so I think this works pretty well.
I intentionally did not include things like Hunger Overhaul or Spice of Life, because while they have their roles and do them quite well, to me they exist more to obstruct the player from progress they'd rather be making. Diminishing food values and/or detrimental effects serve as a punishment to the player for NOT eating. What I prefer is providing incentive for the player TO eat, and eat well.
This also has the benefit of making the farming/growing aspects of the challenge a little easier as the player will likely want to do this anyway for the healing benefit.
An alternate route to healing is of course alchemy and/or magic.
I also intentionally did not include a minimap mod as I intend to push myself into using Antique Atlas instead. It removes any temptation for using radar or cave-mapping features of some of the other minimap mods, and seems to not quite be such a resource hog as some others. Of course, if I'm wrong, I'll rip it out and kick it to the curb in a heartbeat.
I'll post more on my initial foray into the challenge in another post, where I intend to run as a Human, in (mostly) the Advanced Challenge mode. I am not using GregTech at this time -- I've already substantially modded the game and have included RotaryCraft as one of the primary Tech offerings. I think adding GregTech on top of that (if it is even possible) might fall into the category of "player abuse," and I don't want to do that. :-)

I would like to start this challenge. since I am doing it, I might as well be a tester. I am sorry if i forget about pics, and when i take them, i will be flying. Even before i start, please add BuildCraft to the tech modlist. Reasons:
Buildcraft isn't in the list because, while it has several features planned, it mostly only does one really important thing: add a quarry. Industrialcraft, on the other hand, has many features and things to try out. You can have BuildCraft in your mod setup if you want, but for some of us whose computers can't handle all the extra jazz, it's easier just to function without it. If it had some of the features it once had, that would make it more enticing. At the moment, though, it only has a few things that make it worth it, and I like to get more out of my buck than something another mod can do while also adding a bunch of other things (AncientWarfare is almost like the human version of BuildCraft and then some. It's a bit slower but it's also more fun to watch people do things). You can also ask a Turtle from ComputerCraft to do the same thing, and they're capable of doing several other chores too (logging, farming, digging, mining, fighting).
TL;DR: Buildcraft is not in the list because it only does one notable thing. There are other mods that do this same thing (in different ways) while also adding other things. Feel free to play with this mod in your pack if you want to, but it won't be in the suggestions list.
[EDIT] Orange - Creative mode for pictures/finding a decent location is fine. Just so long as you don't use it to cheat in items unless the challenge/race says you can (for example, if you're playing the angel race).
monarch ---If you are in creative any AW2 mob that can be packed will clone themselves. Also I think if you use any sort of safari net or golden lasso they clone as well.

BuildCraft features:
Builders:
Quarry
Architect: makes blueprints (I'm not a cosmetic type of guy, so feel free to cringe at my structures. ALL will be made in creative, and COPIED using BC into the survival world)
Builder: Give it a blueprint and the materials the blueprint requires, and it will build it.
Automatic building was disabled in BuildCraft a while ago due to bugs. Therefore meaning the only working feature is the Quarry because the Builder and Architect Table aren't there anymore. And why install an Addon when there is already a mod with all the features and it does its job well? I'm not saying you should play without BuildCraft, I'm just providing reasons for why it won't show up on my list: it does one thing and there are already mods that can do that one thing too (doesn't Thermal Expansion also have a Quarry?) plus a bunch of other things. I'd rather not encourage people with lower-end computers (like Kyle and Jiynx) to waste valuable computer resources on one feature.
That is, unless you can provide spotlight links or something for a new 1.7.10 version that proves me wrong and that it's much more now.
Beyond that, Please respect my decision and answer. Unless you prove me wrong, My answer is still "no" and I don't want to hear more about it. There are several other mods that add more features plus a quarry that works well and there is Schematica for building things and it doesn't even require a machine. If you need Buildcraft because of dependencies, then that is your responsibility and not mine because I am not distributing a pack, I'm simply making suggestions and letting you know what mods I will write the challenge around.
Thank you for your interest in the challenge. If you continue to irritate me regarding this subject, I will be forced to exclude your name from the honorable list of beta testers because an honorable beta tester also respects the author's decisions.

You have not been in BC. BC 7 is out and EVERYTHING THAT I MENTIONED IS WORKING!!! Also, even though people might have lesser computers, SO DO I!!! Specs: Intel pentium processor, 1TB hard drive, 4Gb ram, Windows 7
*sigh* Listen, kid. I have every right to decide not to have a mod on my list. I'm kind enough to explain why. Allow me to elaborate for a third time:
There are already mods that do everything BuildCraft does better.
Now, for the THIRD time: YOU CAN PLAY WITH ANY MODS YOU WANT TO, i AM NOT TELLING YOU YOU CAN'T PLAY WITH A MOD THAT'S NOT ON THE LIST. FEEL FREE TO PLAY WITH WHATEVER MODS YOU WANT TO. IT IS NOT ON MY LIST BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL IT ADDS ENOUGH TO MAKE IT JUSTIFIABLE.
Congratulations! You have now earned the right to not be on the beta testers list because you have now forced me to explain something to you three times (three strikes, you're out) and have annoyed me. These are no-nos
From now on, respect someone's decision and move on.
I hope today you learned a valuable lesson.
Enjoy the challenge!

Reads earlier posts between when I was here last and now*
Ok... anyways. On a lighter note, I may be the 1st person to make individual updates instead of the entire stage updates or multi-stage updates. Also, might have to check out the R2R challenge later on. But, I finished my house in only 4 minecraft days, so that's good and all! Here is the log:
Log - Week 1
Settler's Log - Week 1
I found a nice little spot in the woods I was traveling through, on a search for a good spot to create a new town in the name of Plainedge Empire! (reference to unmodded FCB challenge =P) Good thing I brought the camera... hope it doesn't run out of batteries.
Here's the spot where I settled down... hey, I need to make a joke sometimes.
After building up walls, I decided to get my hands on some stone and make a roof, and replace the floor. It's a bit dark in here, but that's easily fixed. Good night, guys!
Eventually, I got a roof and a floor up. It still needs windows, so I patched up the holes I made for them and then just went on my way. Here's the finished product:
I think that will be all for now. Hopefully I'll get lucky and hit ore soon! (closes log*)

(I'm Mikezardx I hated my old name so i made a new one)
Currently started on the Egyptian challenge, pictures coming as soon as I figure out a few things.
I don't remember a mike. Are you from way back in the olden days of FCB?

Monarch, Mikezardx posted on the first page here. Maybe you don't remember because his name was in full caps or something?
Anyways next update will be coming soon, because only my family has a party on and after the fourth of July. It's been a bit hectic.

I don't mean to be unapproachable. I accept critiques and suggestions well, so please, by all means, make as many suggestions as you would like.

Ok...
Good night, guys!Eventually, I got a roof and a floor up. It still needs windows, so I patched up the holes I made for them and then just went on my way. Here's the finished product:
I think that will be all for now. Hopefully I'll get lucky and hit ore soon! (closes log*)
