lately . been having creepers blow up on me and they seem so much more explosive!! the last three have exceeded fifty blocks! the average ones have been avg-32 blocks, while my TNT only does ten blocks per piece? same counts on dirt and cobblestone! Is that a normal size explosion for a creeper?
after the first one took out the east wing of my house, I started counting. I have some very large expanses in my yard. I also built a few water features for them to chase me into so I don't have too much damage! So, I get to the wide open area a let him explode. it is a flat dirt area, and there is also cobble three blocks down, so when he is gone I count the blocks to return it to i grade, to get the block counts they are accurate! wish my TNT was that powerful! ! My TNT will only take out 10 blocks tops , unless I light two of the off . creepers are great for blast mining! the one the ruined my house spawned inside, he blew right near the front door! this one was three deep!
this is why I posted the question. not every one but at least 1/3 regular 1/3 28-35 rest 50+ those are the annoying ones! which is why I have numerous water features for them to chase me if they catch me off guard! I have apower II bow now so that makes it easier to get them before they explode. many also blow a little too soon!
I've never bothered to count the number of dirt blocks a typical creeper explosion can take out, but it's dirt, so it could be. There are also Charged Creepers which are more powerful (caused by lightning striking (near?) a normal creeper). They're pretty rare. What happens to me much more commonly is two (or more) creepers blowing up at more or less the same time. That can unleash some devastation.
CanaryCasserole suggested a couple of common tactics. Additionally, since you mentioned them blowing up parts of your house, the basics to keeping mobs off your lawn would seem to apply: keep everything well lit--torches/glowstone/lamps everywhere, including the roof if they can spawn there, and fence your yard or surrounding area off so they can't get within trigger (explosion) range of you.
I do have dozens and dozens in a grid all over the place. they occasionally have been getting in over my mountains somehow or spawning somewhere on the property. there was no lightening , but I don't normally count the blocks, but this one particular hole left by one of them was so obvious and deep that I just for the heck of it started counting some and found the large blocks missing in some, so was just curious as to why? like I said I now have some water features around my yard let them chase me into them. my single TNT only does 10 blocks! what rip off! I now have a few good power II bows , so I can drop them very nicely now, except the ones that sneak up on me!
That makes sense! and , I did fail to mention, that many of the larger explosions are the ones where they had sneaked up on me and I barely jumped out of the way! I thought they had gotten larger at times! thanks

wait, creepers can blow up 32 blocks?
I'm back from my hibernation. Most likely gone so don't pm me.
No it isn't are you sure it's exploding that much blocks...If so how do you know?

From what I can tell, these are normal Creeper explosions.
TNT should be the same.
Go to a jungle and get a bunch of cats. Or, you can always do the "back up, then sprint hit the creeper" tactic.
You can just call me Canary.
How not to look like a total fool in the forum games

The higher your difficulty setting creeper explosions are amplified. See HERE.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
The damage is amplified (As well as the range you need to be in to cancel it's attack) but the radius itself does not increase.
