So I was exploring a little bit earlier in a newly generated 1.8 world and decided to go for a swim. After floating around a little, I found a chunk of clay, so I figured hey, may as well grab it. Anyway, I dug it all up, swam a little bit further, stumbled upon some more clay. I found this a little odd, so I dug up all that and did a little bit more searching to find clay every 30 blocks or so just off the coast of any land.
Just to be sure, I generated another brand new world, ran straight to the shore and swam maybe 30 or 40 blocks and found clay. Another 20 blocks, clay. 40 blocks, clay. 30 blocks, clay. Stuff's everywhere. I found all this in about a 50 block radius.
So anyone else notice this? I'll definitely be building houses out of brick now.
I too noticed this. I just started my new world a few hours ago and I have a full stack of brick blocks. Maybe Notch finally came to his senses and made clay less rare.

If you can't count up to 2,047 on your fingers, you're an idiot.
I did a little happy dance in my chair when I realized clay was common enough to be used for something besides fireplaces.
Why is this a problem? Pre 1.8 I found none. Ever. Had to use an inventory editor just to make a nice roof. Clay is still hundreds of times more useful than gravel.

I don't think you read what he said...or misquoted someone.
Yogscast said that notch has made clay more common to find because people had been conplaining that there wasn't enough. Also Sugar cane is now alot more common.
There's clay everywhere, it's not a rare block any more :sad.gif: .
I think it is extremely nice that I can finally build brick houses. It is still more work than stone or stone bricks, but it is feasible and gives the possibility for varied constructions.
I always felt that the lack of clay is a result of Notch living in Sweden where everything is build in wood or concrete :wink.gif:
I made a pathway in my 1.7 world(which is actually like a 1.4 world when I first started it) through the nether and popped out in the middle of a cave which just so happened to be under a massive ocean with a few small islands near by. I noticed that under water there is clay all over the place.
I now have a cool lighthouse on an island made of stone bricks and bricks. Looks pretty good.

what... are you selling clay on the auction house? Who cares? Guess what ... clay needed to be a bit more common so we could build stuff (other than fireplaces) out of bricks. Contrary to popular belief, I hate using inventory editors.
Good thing I'm recession proof, I'm loaded with diamonds, gold, iron, pumpkins, and lapis. In case of the break down of civilization within a server, I'll be covered, no devolved Steve can resist shiny rocks as a bartering offer! Clay and brick on the other hand, oh ho, they'll send the creepers after anybody who offers such a common item.
Yeah, this was one of the first things i noticed. IT intregued me to a degree where i made a short clip about it!
Check it out if you want!

The rarity of clay always really bugged me, since I live in a place where clay is so common as to be an annoyance. What I'd really like is a dwarf-fortress-like attention to the realities of geology and geography but that's probably never going to happen...
