Hey, I've played the game since mid-Alpha but never really came here much, this is in fact my first post. Yay.
So, I wandered around my new world in 1.8 yesterday for a bit, found a nice place to settle and flattened it out. Built a charming house out of wood with a log trim. Planted a big-ass forest to accompany it. I needed iron at this point and ventured off to a nearby mountain, only to find the whole thing was hollow, with a MASSIVE crevice inside. Furthermore, this crevice was cut in half by an abandoned mine! I explored the mine extensively and at one point the walls became made of grey bricks. I found a stronghold! Right underneath my home! It extended a few hundred blocks into the nearby ocean too!
I then realized this was destined to happen. I decided to I would remodel the stronghold (walling off the more destroyed bits and mine and using them as a source of bricks of course), replace all the walls and mossy and broken bits in the main room and halls leading to the library, then use it as a basement/fallout shelter. I'd probably keep the lower, dungeony bit (which is preceded by a REALLY long downward staircase) the way it was because that was just too massive.
I suppose I'm here to ask for tips. Or maybe I just figured you guys would be interested in hearing. Tell me what you think.
That's a nice location for an epic building you have there! :biggrin.gif:
You could do all sorts with it, but this is what I'd do:
Using the rail tracks from the mine, build a long but fast travelling rail-line from your overworld house down to an arrival platform outside of the stronghold. On the platform you could have a passage leading to a few random rooms, one of which contains a huge but hidden, redstone and piston-powered door to get into the Stronghold itself - I'm thinking like the entrance to the Hive in the first Resident Evil movie, but instead of a creepy hive you could make a cool underground mansion or just fix it up and then keep it all dark and turn it into an adventure map/mob killing ground!
What you did in the stronghold itself would be totally up to you of course, but I'd personally turn it into a fully self-sustainable high-tech Fallout/BioShock type bunker complete with a communal hall, farms, living spaces, laboratories, recreational areas, a park, a water processing facility and a power plant. You could make the overworld entrance to the track inside a secret panic-room in your house and have the mine cart ready to fly in case of emergencies/mob incursions in your home.
You see what you've posted? THAT deserves a

I have heard that there is only one stronghold on a Minecraft server. First off, is this true? And second, is this only for servers, or is it for singleplayer maps also?
Never mind, I see that it was one, but now is being raised to 3 per map. But still, does anybody know of how the will be place? Like near the place you first entered entered unexplored area during 1.8? Any other info would also be helpful is possible.
