do you think pressing f3 to find a cave is cheating. I found a huge cave with diamond, gold, redstone, coal, and iron because i found and heard slimes while using f3. i dont think it is cheating, just taking advantage about what you can do. its like x ray vision kind of. oh and what should i do with 5 diamond?
I wouldn't consider it cheating in SSP, though I personally like stumbling on the good stuff instead of knowing where it is ahead of time. SMP would probably be another story, though.
And make a helmet for more slime-hunting? Or a sword?
It CAN be used as cheating, like using it to find caves. minecraft is supposed to be about chance, NOT certainty. Using F3 for Fps, besides for caves, is okay
I wouldn't say so, using F3 was added to the vanilla game to give information about gameplay, so seeing where a monster is, is a part of that
Oh and, I'd save the 5 diamonds until you could make a full suit of armour or something
No, it is impossible by definition to cheat in a single player sandbox game with no rules. However, depending on server rules, it could be defined as cheating on a multiplayer server. In single player, it is never cheating and nothing could be, including inventory editors.
I'd use the diamonds for a sword + pick, or if you already have those, save them/make more picks. Diamond armor is useless.

Now, now, children, your uncle DethPotato is here to tell you to be nice to each other regardless of each others' opinions. He is also coming here to tell you to either make a new thread regarding this topic, or get back on the main topic of this thread. Or, you could slightly change the topic of this thread so that your current discussion fits.
Everyone has seen the very numerous threads bashing the various features of 1.9, Notch, Mojang, etc. Can we turn down the hating? Just a little bit? Sure, everyone may not be pleased with enchanting, or potions, but really, is it at all realistic to expect that Notch will undo his work from the past several weeks and take these features out? One, that would infuriate far more players than it might pacify, and two, something like that is completely unprecedented in a game as popular as Minecraft. Complete feature removal? Forget about it. Nobody is forcing you to use enchantments and potions.
.
Adding an XP bar does NOT, I repeat NOT turn Minecraft into an RPG. An RPG, to quote the dictionary, is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting and take those characters through a structured narrative or structured decision making.
.
Fantasy elements are often found in RPGs, but the reverse is NOT true. Fantasy != RPG. XP bar + minor fantasy elements does not and WILL NEVER equal an RPG in Minecraft, since Minecraft is completely devoid of a plot whatsoever.
.
Finally, at the end of the day, you have to give Notch and Mojang some credit for what they have accomplished. Minecraft has over 3 million users. If Mojang was making bad gameplay decisions, why is Minecraft one of the most popular video games of all time? Because Mojang knows what they are doing. The success of Minecraft is testament to it.
.
tl;dr: If you cannot come up with a completely valid reason for claiming that 1.9 ruins Minecraft, please keep your mouth shut.
Depends on what you mean by cheating. Since the tool is useable by default, it is certainly available to all players so without special codes, you can "see more".
In terms of getting your co-ordinates, it is invaluable. In terms of identifying large concentrations of NPCs, it is a form of cheating.
I think your real question should be: with F3 used to spot NPCs, is it an acceptable form of cheating?
I fit into none of them. I just use f3 to find coordinates of places to help friends find interesting spots in smp. Also; holding fn on a mac keyboard and hitting a function key does activate the function key you're pressing. I'm a windows user and I know that.
