Genius, The leaves have to be used for something, other then that they are really useless.
Aesthetics is enough of a reason for something to exist in this game, methinks. Although you could create a pretty gnarly fake tree chest hiding place type of thingo or something. Nothing's useless if you're creative.

No, place the wood block down, and place leaf blocks around it. They don't dissapear.
