Sounds good, a mod would be nice but not necesary, a map and texture pack to go with it would add alot on their own.
I like the goal of having to create a rocketship. Though I think that 12 obsidian for each engine and 4 engines are a bit too much to ask (I hate mining or making obsidian, maybe place them in your inventory at start?)
I can use MC-Edit to make a simple map. Just a nice seed where I remove all dirt, grass, wood, leaves, water, etc. If the results look decent I'll set up a large tnt hill and detonate it, resembling the crater you start in. (and probably creating some other craters as side-effect) As final touch a bunch of sings explaining the rules?
To start out, the player would receive 1 stack of dirt, 1 block of grass. 1 stack of birck wood. 1 stack of birck sapplings (i like birck, sue me) Full iron armor (pumkin or iron helmet?). 2 Buckets of water. 1 stack of slimeballs (to make it easier to make airlocks with sticky pistons) Probably some other stuff like food.
I would say that for the rocketship to bring you back, you must use lava as heating system. Each room must have visible lava.
For base requirements:
To go to the outside you must go through an airlock. No wooden doors alowed to go outside since they aren't really air-tight.
Each room in your base must have leaves to provide oxigen. Any room without leaves can only be accessed by wearing your space suit.
Any more things I should add?
the main flaw with the leaves is that it takes days for trees to grow, so you automatically suffocate and the max time the map can be played would be 5 min.
Does this require some modifications before you even start?
I ask because of some of the rules, for instance you can't ever go outside without your suit on.
And you start outside with nothing so.... :unsure.gif:
No, no modifications. Its up to you to play by the rules as you see fit. If you are playing on a new world, i suggest either hacking in the starting items, or delaying the challenge until you are able to collect everything. The challenge begins the first time you put on the space suit. Or, you can also download TheNosteraru's custom map, in which you do spawn with everything you need.
Nice challenge. May i sugesst making your "Moon" spawn in a desert biome to make it more creepey and hostile looking? I just might have to try this sometime!

Interesting challenge. Not for me, but I can appreciate the appeal.
Soulsand wouldn't work for moon soil. Less gravity = higher jump, higher movement speed, even with the bulky astronaut suits we have. :smile.gif:
Soulsand slows you down.
your bones will fade away into moon dust.
There's almost no atmosphere on the moon, therefore almost no decay. Thousands of years would pass before your bones started decaying.
Solar wind might affect it a little, and radiation.
Also, keep in mind, you can hold your breath for 60+ seconds even in the vacuum of space. :smile.gif:
It's been proven, a Russian cosmonaut was a little unlucky, and was exposed to space for a little over a minute.
I think he's dead now...

actually, less gravity might slow you down because it would make it harder to move conventionally.
Well, true, but you do realize that higher gravity would be even worse. :smile.gif:
The Moon or even Mars will still be faster walking speed, once you get used to it, and let's face it, I'm sure Neil Armstrong could totally beat me in a foot race on the surface of the moon, :smile.gif: , then say, Jupiter, if it had a surface.
Or the Sun, with it's 28 or times Earth Gravity on it's surface. If you could walk on it.
Well, not Neil Armstrong now, he's old.

If it's ok, can I post a couple screenshots of my spaceship when it's finished?
I disapprove.
