Ok so usually when I'm out and about exploring or mining I leave my difficulty on normal and fight the mobs to the death.. But today was different. I'd been mining for most of the day (real time) about 2000 blocks from home. I had over a full stack of diamonds, 2 heavily enchanted diamond swords and all my enchanted tools with me, as well as a heap of redstone, lapis and other goodies in my inventory. Then a ran into the bones factory and had arrows shooting everywhere, and a couple creepers joining the party. Was down to 1.5 hearts left then BAM Esc > Options > difficulty > peaceful.
I felt like such a coward but I really had too much to lose and would never have got back from my house in time to collect my dropped items.
It got me wondering who else has drawn the get out of jail free card like this?

Hard work won't kill you, but why take the chance.
I just play with keepInventory turned on. That way I don't lose anything when I die and can be as careless as I want as long as being warped back home isn't a problem!

I do this all the time, probably a little too often to be honest. Even sometimes if I am traveling at night ill do it, i'm such a coward. I also don't have the guts to click the lock button in the settings.

I've done this all too often... Only in a cave if I have too much, I'm too low on health, I'm super far away, and I'm overwhelmed. I usually turn it back to whatever I had before once I've healed.
Mobs are extremely easy once you've played the games for a couple weeks. The only reason I ever die anymore is from getting knocked into lava while mining. I haven't even cared about killing mobs around me since I got Protection III diamond armor. It takes 3-4 shots from a skeleton to just deal 1/2 heart.

I've played Minecraft for years.I still have trouble killing hostile/neutral mobs.

I now find any difficulty short of 'Hard' too easy to play on! I'd suggest you try making a rule like that for yourself, it really adds a positive challenge to the game!
I also suggest using harder world presets or UHC without armor. it's really fun.
I don't do this much, maybe a few times in the past, but mobs are so easy now that on normal difficulty I haven't even dropped below 8 hearts in a while with unenchanted iron armor.

I play with keepInventory on... Always. D: (such a n00b)
I just like to enjoy playing and not worry about losing everything.
Sometimes, however, I switch to creative and manually fly back to my stuff (or cheat it back in) if I die from what I deem an "unfair" reason and my loot is sufficiently annoying to get to. This includes, say, being howled to death by an unseen Enderzoo Dire Wolf without knowing what they do in the span of a second, or getting devoured by a Thaumcraft hungry node without knowing what they are (although in that case it was pretty foolish; heads up, people, running towards mobs randomly taking damage is a Bad Idea™). This is only ever in modded Minecraft; if I die in Vanilla, I accept it since it's pretty damn hard to die in vanilla.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

Ive never done this...i see dying and losing items as part of the game, as well as restocking my inventory of stuff ive lost.

You are not alone my friend!
I play in peaceful with keepinventory so I can die to get back home if I get lost...
Hello there. How's things with you?
What can I say? I'm a fan of hockey.

I came. I saw. I mined.

I'm not trying to sound cocky, but I really wonder how you can enjoy the game after doing that, I'd feel like my world is tainted.
ignoring the fact that I used to play with trainers for months when I was a noob. don't kill me tho, it was singleplayer.
Miner's nightmare preset
Miner's nightmare preset (original terrain)
Killing the Ender Dragon, no damage (no armor/potions/enchantments/pumpkin)
You can enjoy Minecraft without playing with Normal mode, Survival, doMobSpawning true, and keepInventory false....

you might want to read my post again as everything I said was my personal view and I wasn't trying to insult/offend anyone.

I don't. It makes "survival" meaningless. At that point wouldn't it be better to just play creative?

^ This (also applies to keepinventory).
Then again, it's your game. Play it in whatever way is most enjoyable to you.
There are no "rules" in Minecraft (just lots of opinions).
