Long story short, I found a strange cave formation while cave diving. I think it might have something to do with the 1.8 update, and I'm sure its not just random.

Its kinda dark, but you get the idea.

I've seen plenty of those weird rooms. :smile.gif:
They have always been in the cave generation code, and have nothing to do with 1.8.
I thought they were dragons dens back in alpha :biggrin.gif:

I've seen quite a few of these kicking about, except when I play there's always several creepers in each.
If you're unlucky there'll be a short,steep passage up to a second, larger, room with a river that flows down to the first. Meaning the 2nd room has a high spawn rate, and all the monsters are washed down to the first one (that you're in). because of the river you can't climb back without meeting a zombie or spider ect...
I'd like to see Notch programme something special for these rooms, apart from a nearly impossible siege to conquer each one.
{Just imagine a dungeon with each mob type and no reward, thats what it's like}
