I just want to be able to piston a block up or down and have the rails on it not break apart when it goes back down.
But yeah redstone can work well for switches, but in a big switch yard it's gonna get super complicated.I don't know how else they could add switches to the game that would work in any other way though.
What we do need is the ability to move minecart tracks with pistons again.
A simple fix like that would make a much better track switcher (levers are not good enough).
That's exactly how I do my switching (although with a powered rail). I'll come into a stop like this along my line and I can pull a series of levers on the wall behind me to chose the track I need to go to next. The piston will then scoot me over on the powered rail while providing power to it and I'm off again. Wiring it all is a PITA but it works (the switching). The buttons only power the individual piston below it.

1. This lookd really really nice! Can you message me instructions or blueprints?
2. Nice texture. Whats it called?
Using redstone to move curved tracks works fine for me, though I guess some sort of track switch block would be a nice treat for minecart system builders like Hattericus, PearSquirrel or Frumple.
Or a... BUTTON
PUT LEVER NEXT TO TRACK. PULL LEVER.

When constructing large railways, you'll realize that it actually doesn't work as well as you think.

The rail in the middle of the T-junction will change direction if its powered by redstone.

Or a... MINETRACK WITH A PRESSURE PLATE
