Hardly what I call "bland".
Honestly, I love my alpha world to death because of it's awesome terrain. Gravel beaches are nothing new. (Actually from Alpha anyway) Plus, when was the last time you saw a floating Island? I don't know about you, but I'd have to say Alpha.
Very bland compared to the stuff that came in Alpha.

Notch on his twitter: "bugs that feel wrong get fixed"
Do not get attached to your saves, seriously, stuff like this has happened before, if there's something you love and really want to build...Wait for release.
I bought in beta so I have to search youtube to see what alpha was like.
And I liked what I saw. Perhaps there is a mod that makes the map generate more abstract landscapes?

k unless your an alpha player i don't want to hear an argument about the blandness of the worlds. while sad that i find it so, its depressing that alpha maps used to be so unique. Im pretty sure someone complained at one time so notch made everything look more normal EDIT
alpha worlds are a tribute to everything that is minecraft, sadly they are gone and all us from alpha and back can listen to the gibberish of the beta players finding a gravel beach and it BEING SO AWSOME!
Oh and i used to have gravel plains!
FASTER THAN A LASER BULLET LOUDER THAN AN ATOM BOMB
All caps, no punctuation. I don't have any coordinates but I always spawn near something interesting. Not sure if minecraft's seeds can get borked by a new version like Dwarf Fortress's, but I tested it recently and it still works in the current version.
The new maps are rather bland, even if you can find one cool looking space its a 2 day trip to the next. There are a few seeds out there that have a lot more "abstract" look to them, but these are over used. Personally I dont want to use a seed that 10,000+ others are using as well.
Wish there was some way to change up the generation in vanilla to get worlds that fit the desire of the person better. Alas 1.8 will be adding in more things that might spice it up some. I wont be holding my breath for any control over generation any time soon though.
The only things that made alpha maps unique were the chunk errors in my opinion. I believe I started playing early alpha and the landscape wasn't always amazing. I have seen more mountains and valleys in beta than alpha and the landscape in my opinion looks amazing some of the times. Although, you don't see those rare occasions that make a map look awesome very much.

Everybody is entitled to have a stance in an argument no matter if they're Beta or Pre-Beta player/testers. I have to agree that I've seen some alpha worlds and they look amazing. I've also seen some pretty cool features in my Beta terrain. Nothing on the scale of Alpha but it is there nonetheless. I personally feel that it makes finding these cool land formations makes them more special and meaningful.
I have to say that I have to disagree that alpha worlds are a tribute to everything that is Minecraft. I believe that goes with some of the amazing creations that people have made from redstone to just plain building/town/city design.
O rly?
I still get awesome worlds. You guys must not be exploring far enough!
Here are some pics of my latest:
Sorry bout the variety of texture packs! I got these pics a little while ago and couldn't be bothered taking new ones. (I'm in a new area of the world now)
It understand that it does so via a text-file in which you can input numbers in order to sculpt a world of your desire, but with a little more effort I suppose one could replace this with a user interface.
Honestly I want less features such as cliffs and mountains, but bigger and better quality ones. I've been playing since alpha and don't really see anything wrong with the new terrain generators, but I've always felt like they cram too much stuff into too little space! Bigger biomes, oceans, continents, and flatter (in general) terrain would feel more realistic and give you more space for megabuilds without having to use MCedit :biggrin.gif:
It would be nice to have the creative terrain generator be user customizable. Perhaps you could even hear Notch say "reticulating splines" in a breathy voice when you adjust the settings.
I recently made a new world and spawned in a dungeon. If I can, I will get back to you on seed and co-ords.
I will not post the map itself because I do not like hassle and while it may be easy for you, with my luck my computer will explode or something trying to compress the file.

I actually think they're pretty common. I see one every five worlds or so.
But if the generation code is changed to lower the amount of abstract stuff in a map, then the generation is a problem.
There are few abstract maps and objects in maps these days compared to the Alpha generator.

I would build a house on that. Like a boss.
