If MineCraft doesn't make more animals with this style the wolf will continualy stand out and break the exerience. Making MineCraft (somewhat) less fun.
EDIT: I should not make posts at 11PM.
EDIT2: WTF? It's graphics DO suck, but that doesn't matter! Do people who like MineCraft (including me) care about the graphics? No.
I see wolves as a beginning of a transition to new and improved mobs. I agree, and I certainly do hope that the other mobs are "updated" to be more animate like the wolves. Its like when a new phone is released, and its very different from all of the older phones. Eventually the older phones will be updated to include the enhancements and new technologies of the newer phone, and the same will happen to Minecrafts mobs.

I don't really see how wolves don't fit in. The biggest difference between them and the rest of the minecraft animals is that they have a slightly wider range of animation. If they had a straight body it would be a lot harder to sell them as 'wolves'.
Wolves also serve a different purpose. The other animals are supposed to be emotionless, dumb, walking resources. The wolf is a companion. It has a more emotionally expressive model to suit that need.
Also, there are no ducks in minecraft. Those make chicken noises and don't fly. Therefore, they are chickens.
I love Wolves. They have their own room in my house.
Plus they make great companions (what they were designed for). I usually take two or three with me when I go exploring just in case I run into a fight. I think they fit Minecraft perfectly.
Everyone has their own idea of what makes Minecraft, well Minecraft. Everyone is going to agree and disagree on something. In the end, it's Notch's game and he has the final YAY or NAY.
OT: I think wolves are bad. They're a good idea that doesn't work.
Do you mean they're buggy or they actually break the aesthetic of the game (as the OP claims)? Because I don't ever use wolves either. But I do enjoy seeing them in the wild.

A little bit of both. To reiterate, I think wolves are an excellent idea. But sometimes, for one reason or another, a decent idea just doesn't turn out like you'd hoped. That's the case with wolves, methinks. They're funky.

I think by breaking the aesthetics he means that they do not fit right colorwise. If you watched the video it compared the color palettes of different games together. In Minecraft the palette for most the mobs in the game are bright and vibrant, while the wolf is just dull and gray.
Perhaps slightly more annoying, since I mess with wool pixel art on occasion, and I can't have those miscreants killing all my sheep away.
Hopefully the future solution to this will eventually be the ability to tame and protect sheep. Then add shears and regrowing wool and poof! problem solved.

Shears are already implemented, but persistent mobs aren't. I'm waiting for that pretty anxiously.
I wonder, if I dye a sheep, will it continue to produce that color wool? Woolen rainbow garden ftw!

That would be pretty awesome, but I actually hope when sheep can grow wool back they'll grow their original color or collecting dyes would be a one time occurrence, and most dyes have limited use anyway.
Most colors are easy enough to come by though. Especially if you have access to a skele spawner. Cactus, red and yellow flowers, and bone are easy enough to farm. It's the brown, blue and black that's annoying. But luckily brown and black ( and other shades of grey) come naturally on some sheep, so if you could round enough up you wouldn't have to worry about those dyes. That just leaves lapis lazuli unless I'm forgetting something. But I guess you'll have to mine SOMETHING in MINEcraft :wink.gif:.
I bet the OP had no idea that this thread was going to turn into dreams of sheep farming.
I suppose the difference is I view Minecraft primarily as a creative sandbox, rather than an adventure sandbox game. I mean, look at beds, Mojang obviously doesn't take issue with making it easy. I want permanent lime green sheep.

Well that's why he's planning on different modes of play. But as far as survival - work-for-everything mode, nah. But if he added a beta creative mode, heck yeah.
MineCraft is great becasue of it's simplicity, the graphics suck but it has a style. Wovles break that style and are alien from the rest of the game.
See the diffrences: Sheep Cow Pig Chicken vs. wolf
Why does this matter? This video can explain it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/3201-Graphics-vs-Aesthetics

I was the second person to use the avatar I have. The rest took it from me. The first I asked, he said yes.
I know what I'm doing. I plan ahead, or get tired and screw up everything.

Respond regardless.

(Also, the graphics are great)
That isn't implied in the OP.
