The problem that I have that really prevents me from playing on multiplayer is that one day the server admin could decide to wipe the map or the server could close down...and I don't like all my 'hard work' just dissapearing
I used to love singleplayer. That was pretty much all I played. Then I started to play on a cool server with some nice people, and now all I play is multiplayer.
So I prefer multiplayer.

Baa baa black sheep have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir three blocks full.
I prefer multiplayer, just because people can actually use my mechanisms I build. It's also fun when you're the only engineer type on your server. Can you believe I charged one guy 20 gold (valuable on my server, since the rail network used a lot) for a small observation post with a simple audio alarm? It's fun to rip people off! =D
I like both, but I tend to get bored with Singleplayer if I'm not playing a custom map.
I host a server with a few good friends, and building/playing with them is much more interesting than gathering wood, building a shack and a mine, and then rolling over braindead.
So I prefer Multiplayer, but there's nothing wrong with Singleplayer.
Well this really depends. I like the way minecraft is made to play, I wish, one day, I will find a server that is like single-player. Im looking for a server with no world-edit, no spawned items, no day night change. This is really hard to find, and most pure vanilla servers I join, turn out to be full on creative servers.
Single player ued to be awesome, but then i FINALLY fund a good sever with (mostly) helpful people and so i DEFINETLY prefer multiplayer. no one argue with me!
well im playing on a private server with my friend, just the two of us. its pretty fun to build things and tinker around with some redstone.
i prefer that way more over single player.
and when im playing sp, im always on peaceful since im only playing there to try out some design-ideas for implementation on our server.
we are playing 100% legit and have a cool castle, several towers a minecartnetwork, a giant mobfarming-tower, alot of discovered huge cave-systems, mineshafts and so on!
it sure will ache when were going to start a new world on 1.8 but we will keep the savegame so we can always go back for a lil if we get "homesick", also in a new world theres new possibilities and landscapes that want to be molded!
I would prefer Multiplayer, but good servers are always filled with too much plugins to prevent griefing/have griefers. Small servers have a lot of downtime/bad connection. So I play singleplayer!
So I prefer multiplayer.
YUM YUM YUM!

So yeah, multiplayer. But I don't like the lag =/
