A railroad from your mine to your base, preferably powered. Then it becomes much easier to send supplies up to your base while not needing to walk up there.
The lava room- a room absurdly filled with lava that you can break so that it floods your base with death. Only should be used if mobs somehow break inside and you have to run.
Storage, without it there's no way to store anything you get from anything else.

you can venture out into the creeper infested outside, but it's alot nicer to harvest in the safety of your home.
Also, Beacons are a great way to make it back to your base, a lighthouse/boat dock/minecart hub are also important for safe transportation.
The most important, however, I would say a proper farm, where you can harvest wood, mushrooms, sugar, milk, eggs, pork, wheat, and slime balls safely.
