My tree is coming along well, only using renewable stuff like snow and wood (with the exception of dirt), here's the newest image of it:
Got 1 wolf so far, a huge pack of like 6 or 7 spawned but I only had enough bones to tame one. Got a snow wall with a lip around my base so nothing can get into, liking how the snowblocks look with the birch blocks, been collecting wool and gonna do something with them later, not sure what yet, but I think it'll look nice with the birch and snow.
Got 3 buckets despite that iron isn't renewable, but that's the only iron I'm using, just enough for me to move around water (which is renewable so I wanted access heh) and to make cakes.

This seems like a lot of fun indeed! Going to dump my stuff and bring a single sapling and a bonemeal to grow it up with into the wilderness away from our areas on my SMP-server, and act it out right away. xD

The most wonderful thing about science is that it doesn't ask for your faith, it asks for your eyes. The universe doesn't care about what you believe.
Aw bollocks. Just started out, got fairly lucky during my first night. Managed to kill three spiders and get enough string for two bows (!) by hiding in a 1x1 block hole and just punching them as they ran across over the top, and sunrise was greeted by the sounds of two burning skeletons hiding right outside my tiny shelter, leaving three bones and a few arrows. "Yay, bonemeals!" I thought.
My luck was put to a very abrupt end by no less than three angry as **** creepers that charged me seconds after, proceeding to blow the living daylight out of absolutely everything while murdering me in the process. xD
I'll bring a stack of dirt and another sapling and a bone meal to the same spot and see if I can salvage any eventual remains, I really liked the spot I found. A fairly big open plain, surrounded by a rainforest biome on three sides, and a stretch of sea at the fourth. Would've been a great spot for a big life tree.
This tree spirit shall not give up this easily!

Nandonalt's tree mod is a MUST for this challenge if you want to go moderately hard. The canopy blocks help a lot, and and sequoia trees are nice, too.

The specific question he's asking I think, is whether the things you can dig are limited to what you as a player can reach without leaving a log, which is what, about four or five blocks away from a log, or the blocks that the tree itself can reach, which is only one block away!

That tree mod actually is incredibly awesome. More trees available to use as well as the option to grow vines that you can climb, and place the 'leaves' of trees wherever you want, except that when placed you are able to walk through them, and they don't despawn. I might have to try over using this...
I went out farther and higher from my tree so it can be seen differently (plus more progress on top part, picture taken from opposite side and really high up):

By ignoring that challenge rule just for the sake of taking a picture. :tongue.gif:
No harm in that, as well as occasionally running a bit into the distance simply to get a different view of your tree, in my opinion.

Ya, I ignore the challenge for pictures , otherwise all my pictures would be walls or partial pictures of the tree heh. My first attempts at screenshots were on roots, but it was just too close to get a proper view.

I've been going at this challenge for a few days, my tree is shapping up to be fairly huge. It inhabits a medium sized island and has it's roots spreading over the entire thing, leading up to a massive; enclosed, trunk. You get in through a duo of under-root water tunnels, which look natural AND keep mobs out. I'll post pics later.
The specific question he's asking I think, is whether the things you can dig are limited to what you as a player can reach without leaving a log, which is what, about four or five blocks away from a log, or the blocks that the tree itself can reach, which is only one block away!
yep, exactly ^.^
I think this answeres the question:

You can get rid of the dirt, as long as u stay close to ur tree? Does that make sence? If not can u post a picture?
Thank you guys :smile.gif:
I can't wait for the weekend, I wanna try this out ^^
Had to start a new world 4 times before finaly surviving the first night and then the waiting for saplings to grow begins. It has a slow start but the occasional afk'ing to let saplings grow help.
So far I have just created my second floor, a cellar with bed, a nice root growing down from the cliff my tree is on and found my first (and only) iron ore!
Most fun part is waiting for the pig to come close enoguh to kill it :biggrin.gif:!
This challenge is the most fun challenge that I have played yet. Adding a few rules, it becomes incredibly fun, for even the light gamers.
Hardcore Mode:
You must pick Birch or Cherry (If you have Motrees)
You die, you delete the world.
No Beds!
Easier Startup Rule:
You have until midday the first day to gather logs and other supplies (such as wool, pork, leather, etc). HOWEVER, you CANNOT make ANY tools, which means no mining. After noon the first day, you have to follow the normal instructions of the game. (Find your tree, stick to it)
The difficulty of the game gets harder and harder as you choose different tree types. Here is a quick chart to show how easy something is:
Oak-
Easiest in the game. You can quite simply find a large oak in the middle of the forest and then have all that wood to cut down and use. It is a quite simple and easy mode for those who want to try it out.
Pine-
A little harder, but still easy, because of the large amount of pine trees in snowy areas.
Cherry-
One of the harder types, because of the Mo'trees length of time to naturally grow a cherry tree (seems to be 2x the time). With this mode, you pretty much have to pray that you find some bones soon for bonemeal, or you will be waiting a while.
Birch-
The hardest version. Birch grow very small naturally, with the largest giving no more than 6 logs at a time. They also have specific saplings, which, thanks to the fact Notch made saplings a little less rare, means that saplings are a bit tedious to get ahold of in the beginning.

...but I'm not sure, if I understood the rules completely...am I allowed to destroy all blocks I can reach as long as I am one block beneath the tree?

you can chop away as many blocks as you need aslong as the base block of the tree remains[/quote]
I think I wasn't specific enough...

...would I be alowed to dig away all this dirt? ...or could I only destroy the blocks adjacent to the tree branch?

Or the Tree from Avatar,
Or a great life tree from WOW
OR, a- nevermind.
Deku tree would be cool though, yes. Some already kinda look like it, eye's + nose and a walk through able mouth and there you go.

Here a view over the leaf roof/floor and my house in progress
This is to compare (Where the saplings are on this pic will be my house later on)
Here my future mineentrace :smile.gif:
Have fun planting.
