Notch is getting work done really quickly lately.
I like the idea of maps, but won't they make compasses a bit obsolete?
Not really. I think while maps would be very useful, I'd still use a compass when adventuring out. The map would be useful to planning, but I think a compass would still be useful for navigation.

I was on yogcast server with him he summoned herobrine i think i got a screeny http://img864.imageshack.us/i/20110504120008.png/ thats notch with the cape so its not a hack but no herobrine but i used spc commands /skin Herobrine and it gave me his skin so it might be a player(He picked up gravel)so this might be an update once he gets finsihed with map he said hes working on npc sp chat for herobrine
so he might work on after maps(PLEASE DONT BAN ME) he said so himself the image prooves it!
The only new feature that will appear is the mapping.
notch's blog. I'm taking that as "NO PISTONS." So everybody who's saying "He said pistons won't be in 1.5, so its definitely in 1.6" No. I'm sure he'd have said pistons will be in aswell if they were.
So looking at the screenshots I take it the map actually lets you see land you haven't travelled to yet?
By this I mean stuff that is not in your line of site... if there is a lake beyond a mountain, your minimap will show it, even though you haven't actually climbed the mountain yet.
Takes the fun out of true exploring, but at least there will finally be a mapping feature in the game (instead of relying on a mod)
hi i just wanted to say that while i was playing the minecraft beta 1.5_0 that i saw a other "player" i was on single player though. he had no name above him. and he did not have anny pupils. very creepy. i thought that i would just share that with ya guys. ps. HE WAS ****ING CREEPY AS HELL. also if anyone knows what it might be PLZ PLZ tell me. thanks
