Yes the topic is relatively pointless but it's interesting when you notice something like this for the first time...

Any other things in plain sight that you've never actually noticed in Minecraft?

That means hammers and saws shall be in minecraft too!

wow i've never noticed the little tools on the work bench. ha ha!

I've always known there were tools but I never actually noticed what tools they were. I also never noticed the crafting grid on the top surface or the cloth covering it.

Jeb says shears will be added in 1.7 and can be used on sheep, leaves, TnT, and... what was the last one...?

Well pliers and shears do look awfully similar.

Perhaps hammers could nail together blocks so when pistons push one block, the other goes along with it.

Besides, considering that you have a workbench, it's probably going to have small tools for use with it.... it'd be tedious if we had to figure out patterns for hammers, saws, pliers, nails, etc... I would bet that it's a hammer, Saw, and pair of pliers on the workbench, used for holding parts of a creation.... after all a 3 pixel hand has to have some level of problem maneuvering a 2-pixel plank to build a bed...

Sticky Pistons, NOT Spikey Pistons... Both were Ideas... XD

obviously pliers duh lol why would shears be on a workbench id put those in my tool shed and my pliers on my workbench this makes me think notch should add more decorative blocks ie. tool shelves n such

Those are not shears. It's a hammer, a saw, and a pair of pliers - 3 things that you'd find on a workbench. Remember, the crafting bench is just a workspace. When we put items on the grid, they're shaped like the object we're creating for a reason - our character is actually taking the materials and building whatever it is we want. Using those tools.

I'm going with Pliers. The Handle Length and Lack of "blade" length makes them look a whole lot more like pliers. Plus, it's a Workbench, not a Gardening Bench.

I wonder why they're white. After all, you don't use paint or iron when crafting a workbench... It's like ghost tools or something.

(Not being serious, but there's really no indication as to why they are there.)

So apparently, Steve can pull metal for the toolheads, cloth for the top of it, and various shades of brown paint from a cubic meter of wood. I wish all wood was as magical as this.
P.S. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GUTTER.
