I've found a way to use hatches to improve all pig cookers. You used to have to route the pigs where you want the drops to end up, and kill them there. This was not only slow, but inconvenient, as you had to have flaming pigs drop from your ceiling. Using hatches, you can kill a pig with fire, and still move its drops.
As you can see, the drops are forced through the hatch when the pig hits it. I haven't tested this with any other mobs yet. Constructive feedback would be appreciated.
And damn, I can't update my sig without breaking it.
Kinda always figured the ultimate pig cooker would be flint n steel. :tongue.gif: If you need mass amounts of pork for any real reason beyond just having it, I think you've managed to find a way to play the game wrong. :laugh.gif:
I just realised who you are. Another great use for a mechanic, found by you yet again. I do hope you find a way to make a new realistic elevator with the boat, hidden column of water and the now extinct door booster.
Heh, the default avatar was what prompted me to use my own. And the elevator is so slow now, but it still works, and the hatch could probably replace the cart completely.

With a decent spawning pad, you can get a heap more pigs than running around with flint and steel. And besides, this method is more evil.
I've tried this and the drops sometimes get stuck on the hatches. Opening them lets the drops through, allowing them to be closed again. If two layers of hatches were used with a delay between each, it would allow all the drops through without leaving any pigs alive. :biggrin.gif:
Does it still work if the height is something like 3? Because in my current mob system, I drop them onto a ladder which results in the drop rate being much below 100%. But if the hatch works, it would be awesome.
And also, I don't think the 5 clock idea would work, because the pig would just fall through the hatch when it opened, wouldn't it? Because although the pig cannot fit through it while the hatch is static, when the hatch is in movement it allows any entities fall through it. I'm not sure though.

Building legit is like peeing your pants. Everyone can see what you've done, but you're the only one who feels the warmth. Is it worth it?

I'll test that tomorrow, but having the lava 10 blocks above the hatch definitely works.

I've built a working design that isn't much bigger. I'll upload a vid of it tommorow if I can find a free recording software.
