...to play the beta or alpha version of the game? Do I need internet? do I need a sound card? Graphics? What does it require? Any help would be much much MUCH apriciated. Thank you
You'll need internet to download and activate the game. You can play the game in offline mode after that. You'll only need to launch the game while connected to the internet if you want to update the game. Just about any desktop sold within the last 5 years or any laptop (not netbook) sold within the past couple of years will probably let you play minecraft. I think the processor speed is the most important thing because the game is software rendered.
Not much RAM, any half-decent processor, sound and graphics card should do. It's not very intense.

I'm told that computers use cookies to store information, mostly with an internet browser.
I usually cram a few oreos into my CD tray to keep it running smoothly.

the person is asking because he/she is wondering if his/her computer can play the game, and thus whether or not BUYING IT would be a waste of money.
only play that card in threads like 'why is my game not werk frownyfaic' or 'look at this giant castle i builded' or 'whats a portal why cant i make it'.

if you can play classic, you have the hardware to play beta. Decent CPU helps though.

Sigg'd.
OT: It doesn't take much to play. I played TF2 on minimal settings and got around 12 FPS max.
But I get around 12 on max settings on Minecraft.

I must sig this.
OT: it really depends. I've heard of some people with awesome gaming rigs who couldn't handle minecraft, but some people with old computers can handle it well. I recently got a new computer and upgraded it, not sure of the specs right now, as im not at it at the moment, but I play on normal and fast (I like the leaves better) and get around 100-200 fps. I guess I'm just lucky though.
Enough, but not nearly a lot. now 16gb ddr3, that's a lot.
Uh, edit:
Yeah 2gb will suffice, but if you can afford it, 4 is better, and not a whole lot more expensive. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7025846&CatId=4534
2, 2gb ram modules, equalling 4gb (herp) for cheap. Nearly ALL motherboards have 2, if not 4 ram slots nowadays. Just remember, the closer they are to your processor on your motherboard, that one will get used first.
