Well, I'm going to bring up the big argument, because nobody has yet.
Assuming powered rails can match the utility and convenience of glitch alternatives. Assuming they are fixed to be less of a monstrous resource sink. And assuming they are made to be as good as glitch boosters in every way (Which they are currently nowhere near), what would then be the point of removing glitch boosters? They would then only be a vastly interesting set of gameplay mechanics that many players can choose to enjoy. Their existence is not to the detriment of -any- player's fun. At all. Period.

Well, one could argue. The glitch booster concept does prevent carts from running along side each other. Also, I doubt that regular boosters will EVER be as resource efficient as glitch boosters.

No you didn't, because TNT damage doesn't stack.
See my About Me section for info about me.

Yeah, I considered that, but it happened the other way around. Notch accidentally added glitch boosters when he was trying to stop carts from being able to pass beside each other :tongue.gif:
Well, boosters would ideally cost more resources than a bit of extra track and a second cart (Although that's not exactly free itself), but one gold per booster is certainly too much. I just hope nobody brings up the ridiculous argument that glitch boosters are -too- cheap, in a (either single player, or moderated multiplayer) game where an iron pick only lasts slightly longer than one made out of rocks.

Engineering glitchy minecart boosters, and reading about other people's designs, was kind of fun. So far, engineering powered rails is extremely mundane. I feel similarly about various exploits of the SW rule which I imagine will eventually be fixed, and make working with water and lava more boring.
I think this is a step toward making Minecraft full less compelling than Minecraft beta.
I see a lot of good arguments in here, and a lot of whining too. The biggest problem everyone seems to be having is that they've forgotten that Minecraft is a game in it's beta phase. There's lots of things to be added and lots of things to be removed. Not every bug or glitch becomes a feature. Sometimes something that happens in the game as it's played becomes so popular that it get's added to the finished product. Sometimes a bug is so bad it kills the game and it needs removed.
Ultimately, despite Minecraft being very community driven, the final word still rests with Notch and his team. Players will either adapt and have fun with new mechanics, or feel jaded and cling to their older versions (or leave the game all together).
I personally look forward to the finished product, barring any major changes to the game-play formula - which has yet to happen since I've started playing.
All glitches should be fixed that is why they are called glitches.
This.
Every glitch should be fixed. The game is still in development. They're not going to leave glitches in when they are well aware that they exist.
I don't understand. If what you're making is a sandbox game that has glitches that aren't entirely game altering and that some people enjoy, why remove them? If you don't like boosters, you don't have to use boosters, you can use powered rails as much as you want. But I've personally found boosters useful for other things besides boosting, so I use both powered rails and boosters.
Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter. I guarantee someone will make a mod adding them back into the game. If not, I will.

they are unfair. Right now, some glitch makes it so, when a minecart runs along another a minecart, it increases it's internal momentum to way over the max. This makes it unfair for purposes of speed.

How are they "unfair"? As stated above, it's a sandbox game, if you don't want to do something, then don't do it, it's not like it will alter your progress in the game. I personally enjoy the fact that you can do so many cool things in the game and take advantage of them, such as making TNT cannons, minecart storage depots, etc.

For reference unfair refers to difficulty or challenge, not whether or not enough people dislike something to remove it.
Just because you like something doesn't mean it's balanced, ontop of that I've noticed alot of people on this forum are rather petty in that they can't stand anything they like being removed. Spending a little iron for essentially infinite speed is not the same as using a ton of gold on powered tracks.
Saying it's a sandbox game, doesn't change **** about the gameplay, just your PERCEPTION of whether or not the pre-established game rules matter or not in comparison to other game. Make a sword? Cool, you hit mobs with it, durability drops, eventually it breaks. Wanna mod it? That's nice, now it has infinite durability, and is CHEATING.
TL;DR: Nobody cares if you payed for the game and have a superiority complex over it because it's a "sandbox game" some glitches shouldn't be left in a game just BECAUSE people are tempted to use them.

I wanted to be done discussing this subject but you only got "infinite speed" when using certain types (the most glitchy type, like C-boosters) The rest of them, the kind most people used (or at least the kind I used), propelled you for a certain distance and then you had to build another one, not unlike powered rails. It still took a fair amount of resources to make them, and I thought it was reasonably balanced gameplay-wise, though not as resource intensive. It was just a stand-in for some machinery that accelerated the cart at certain intervals (not unlike the powered track...) Anyway, just wanted to clear that up.

It was practically infinite speed compared to powered rails, even if powered rails get buffed you'll likely need like.. one every 5-10 track pieces, i DID experiment with boosters awhile back on test worlds just to see how they worked. Honestly they were pretty, for lack of better word, ********. You can use a few pieces of track and a minecart as soon as you run past it, it can keep you max speed for like, 30-40 pieces of track, and it only needed a little iron. Compared to even best case scenario buffing of powered rails, that just hardly could ever be considered "balanced."
I'll admit they were pretty neat on puzzle maps and things, or adventure maps, but for legit gameplay they're just.. so obscenely fast and simple to build it's a bit ridiculous. Given momentum built up infinitely per extra piece of booster track, all you needed was a longer booster to send someone flying halfway across the map.

Alright fine, sorry you feel that way, but I thought the effort required to simply build the track legitimately was quite substantial already, at least if you're going any great distance (which to me seemed like half the point of having trainlike vehicles). If you're not going that far, then yes, I see your point. Trying to build a longer railway with only powered rails could be ruinously expensive for most casual players, and only serve to increase use of INVedit to satisfy their building desires.
Maybe if they fixed powered carts we could use them over distances. (ie more speed/power, couples to player cart) Would be a lot better.

I'm not just saying it's a sandbox game, it IS a sandbox game. You don't HAVE to do anything in the game, you can do whatever you want in it. If the way you happen to like to play is by giving yourself infinite durability on your sword, so be it, but as long as it isn't bothering other people I don't see why you should go out of your way to remove something that some people enjoy.
All Glitches Should Be Fixed Because What the point of playing the game if its glitched like if you destroy a block 2 come out instead of one no point playing and working for it so yeh after you play it heaps the go ahead and cheat as much as you like
Let me put my overview like this:
-I do not want the boosters breaking, but I see a necessity in it. Ill just have to rebuild it all.
-Half ladders I liked, but they didnt need fixing, however, its not the end of the world.
-Infinite Water springs are not glitches
-Chunk Errors can be a pain, but for mining they are a god send.
-breaking the minecart puts you down one level, that needs to be fixed, we can all still go to the void with it in place
-And lag, like with many furnaces, NEEDS to be fixed. I cant be having it with furnaces lagging out my game
Almost this. As I said, boosters need a better replacement before they ar replaced. Half ladders definitely DID need to be fixed. I think infinite water springs should stay, at least until Notch does a MAJOR water update to make it more realistic. Chunk errors NEED to be gotten rid of, if possible, because I hate accidentally seeing diamond in one, and feeling if I don't mine it, then it's a waste, but if I do mine it, I'm cheating. Agree with the minecart breaking and lag.
Also, Notch NEEDS to fix the weird ladder destroying issues, where it randomly switches between selecting the ladder and the block behind it. That is so damn annoying, and definitely makes it dangerous to be destroying ladders from above.
