I'm surprised nobody seems that excited about what might be done to powered carts. Minecart trains could be feasible soon, or even crazier, he might even make them as powerful (if slower) than a boosted cart, at a constant speed.
Um collision physics still work. So if you make a cart go 8mps and go onto a track next to another cart on a different track, the cart will push the other, but they won't lock together and boost. So as long as you add a powered rail in front of the pressure plate or a block away, the cart will still be brought onto the rail and be boosted, I think. Besides, there are ways to make the same mechanisms with booster rails than traditional boosters.
Doesn't affect me since I just finished converting all of my track to powered rails, but I'm sorry to see the glitch go. Why? Because it interferes with some people playing Minecraft the way THEY want to. You glitch-booster-haters presumably weren't using them (probably because you tried to make them and failed) so removing them doesn't affect you. So why are you happy? It makes the game more realistic? GMAFB! Just look at it. There's nothing realistic about it. No, I suspect that you're the type of people that can't stand it that other people play Minecraft differently than you, with different goals and priorities. Grow up.
Of course, it HAD to be fixed because it was a glitch. And why was it a glitch? Uh ... because all the people who didn't like it called it a glitch instead of a feature. You even got me doing it.
And for those complaining about the difficulty in finding gold - use INVedit or TooManyItems. If you're one of those that think using editors is a "cheat" and that you derive some sort of moral superiority from not using them, well, this is your opportunity to be even more morally superior through performing more mining drudgery.
And Minecraft is a Survival game because a section in a forum is labeled "Survival Mode"? Nice logic. If Beta is a Survival game, why does it have a peaceful setting? Wouldn't that render the whole purpose of the game null and void? It would be like Modern Warfare with a "no guns and explosions" setting.

It is a glitch bug not because we called it a glitch/bug. It is one because it is unintended for carts to even boost each other in the first place, otherwise why did Notch put Powered Minecarts in at the same time? They were the original intended means to travel that nobody used (that is, to use powered minecarts to push other carts before P-Rails were introduced) because it was too ineffective compared to glitch boosters.

I have been asking for this for awhile, and it would be excellent if that happened. If they eventually make it so minecarts can couple, they probably would have to do something about the cart collision glitches anyway. My main concern is/was over the lack of a suitable alternative to glitch boosting as a distance solution.

It affects me because I love glitch boosters and use them all the time, but I'm okay with revamping them to only use powered rails. Hell, I revamped them once already to use both powered and glitch boosters, even though I knew eventually the glitches would go away, because I like the process of tweaking and modifying. I'd ripped them up before for no other reason than to optimize and try out new booster techniques. :smile.gif:

They're a glitch because Notch said they're unintended, and that's what a glitch is -- unintended, quirky behavior. Two minecarts locking together and boosting each other to high momentum was a glitch in the collision code.
Glitches don't have to be fixed, they can become blessed as 'features' instead, but Notch still thinks of them as a glitch that should be fixed, and his is really the only opinion that matters.

Uh the forum is labeled "Survival Mode" because that's what the actual game mode is called. It's the only mode in Beta, so you don't see it called that in the game launcher, but it is.
However people read WAAAY too much into that simple word "survival" and assume it implies all sorts of things about what kind of game it should be, like it automatically means a game like Left4Dead or Resident Evil, or basically whatever baggage they themselves bring to the term. Survival = hunger and thirst? Um, no. Sometimes a game may require you to do that, and you could call that game "Survival", but that doesn't mean anything called "Survival" must have hunger and thirst. It's just a name, people!

Agreed. All that "survival" really means is that it's not creative mode where you are invulnerable. As many have said before, if your only goal was to "survive" you could just seal yourself in a hole with a torch and win the game.
I wouldn't mind seeing and option to turn hunger and thirst on though, but it should be independent of the difficulty level, like in Fallout New Vegas.

It was too ineffective compared to walking. And that's why the powered rails did not immediately catch on widely - they were just too slow. Now maybe he's fixed that (depends on how much faster he made them), but basically, a system that doesn't keep me at near-max speed is a system that's not worth building. For a nice scenic stroll, I can use a much simpler and quicker to build system - a road.
Oh boy here comes the tears, spoiled kids and their glitch boosters not liking the idea of having to actually put some effort into getting a Minecart moving.
I almost wish Notch had taken the glitch out months ago like he -said he would.- Atleast then people would be used to using powered minecarts(pain to use) so these powered tracks would be a godsend.
I'll admit it takes alot of mining to get gold required, sometimes obscenely so, but it atleast is a step in the direction of a gameplay challenge instead of, hey, lets put a minecart on a little section of track and suddenly i fly across the entire map at infinite speed.

That's not what it's about for everyone. The fact is that by fixing this bug, Notch removed a couple features along with it:
Problem?
Yeah I already knew about it, that's what I was referring to.

Seems the majority of people so far want em gone.. 10 to 1 actually as of this posting :smile.gif:

^^ fixed, pun intended.
He tweeted a little bit ago that he increased the speed of power boosters.. Enjoy :smile.gif:
Which hopefully means momentum, since they can already easily boost you to max speed...
Unless he's increasing the max speed! =D
i like hearing people raging and flaming, on the other hand, i liked that glitch
