Okay, if I'm wrong, feel free to call me dumbass, but I could have sworn that at Y=12, you're not supposed to mine into solid pools of lava, since they begin spawning at Y=10 and below. So why is this happening? Do I have my facts wrong, or have the spawning heights of lava pools changed?
What, that they raised the lava pool height? I've never had this happen before. I've had surface pools, and single-source lava-falls above level 10, sure, but never pools like this.
That is an underground lava lake, not a cave, which would not have been filled at the height of your lake, two different things, caves are always filled with lava from level 10 downwards and lava lakes can be found anywhere.
my mines at level 12 all dont run into lava.
all below, or at.
im not sure whats up with your world...

randomly generated lava pools also have a chance of spawning anywhere on the map.
You are guaranteed lava below 12.
You MAY find lava in other places.
....
really?
notice the coordinates and his height.

He's saying that OP ran into a lava pool, e.g. the ones on the surface. It's a coincidence that its so close to the regular lava height.
Thank you, that answered my question.
