Just got done playing Crysis 2 on max settings with no problem at all, logged onto Minecraft to play at 20 FPS on fast. Something is wrong, stop ignoring it.

I mine gravel with a pickaxe, how do that make you feel.

Funny, I thought Crysis 2 was that console port people laughed at.
While Minecraft is the game I get 500 + fps with maxed settings and 64x64 texture pack in SMP.
Again with insulting my knowledge of computers. Stop that, you don't know me.
Anyways, as far as I can tell, I can change every instance of "skip" with "lag" in your reply and have it make perfect sense to anyone who knows anything about how a computer goes through the typical I/O process. When frames are dropped at the GPU level because the system hasn't finished rendering the next frame, a lag is induced, as the system is taking time pushing the output out. This is what computer lag is, a slowing of output. If the computer is exporting at 15 fps and the user is expecting 60 fps, the computer is lagging behind, as the interpretation of lag is relative to the user, but that's beside the point. Also, when you talk about how people are clipping through walls, that's a completely different type of lag that occurs due to a slowness in communication between the server and the client, and has nothing to do with the client's hardware, save the modem/router in some cases. You bringing that up into this argument makes me think you know a lot less than you think you do. How many classes even involving computers did you take in school?
You, sir, receive the award for being the only person in this thread who is even slightly intelligent and knows what they're talking about.
I'm seriously saying thanks; for all your hard work and dedication into something everyone else thinks they know everything about - and being one of the few people left on the planet with a brain in them.
The core of the flaw in the OP's argument is that Minecraft does not require a powerful computer because of its complexity. Minecraft requires a powerful computer because it was programmed badly, and in Java too. Thus, people have a right to complain. Pressing F3 or switching to a higher-resolution texture pack should not make the game run faster for anyone. The game should run that fast normally for essentially everyone. Tiny render distance should not use more RAM than larger render distances(that one may have been fixed, though).
Also, where's the lager at? I could really use a drink right now.
LOW GRAPHICS?
I NOT NEED GUD COMP3RTER.
I PLAY ON TOASTER.
ME COMPLAIN AND RANT ON T3H INTERWEBS ABUOT DA BAD GAME.
NOT ME FAULT, IT NOTCH'S FUALT.
M4KE BETTER.
I HAVE A BAJILLION FPS A SECOND NORMALLY AND IF IT FALLS BELOW THAT I AM LAGGING AND SO ARE YOU IF YOU ARE BELOW THAT.
Honestly. Computers perform differently, they each handle calculations at a different pace, and they're not going to all have the same normal FPS rate. If you've got your 50 or 30 or whatever frames because you've got a computer that you bought/upgraded in the past year, well goody for you. This guy over here with the 2008 HP desktop has 15 FPS and that's fine too. He doesn't think it's choppy.
Okay.. yet another thread to jump into, wonderful.
Let's see, major points:
-*-It's spelled Lagger, least I think, Lager is a variety of alcoholic drink.
-*-I'm not sure why so many people are throwing a hissyfit over the word "lag." For you elitists out there, lag isn't an actual term denoting network problems anyway. That would be having "High latency/ping" alongside having "Low fps." Lag applies to both as a general term, so.. yeah.. elitists are arguing over nothing.
-*-Most people complaining about low fps, do infact need a hardware upgrade, though this doesn't apply to everyone per-se.
-*-Minecraft is coded really badly, so although people's computers can still be classified as "shitty" it isn't a very fine line between what is "not good enough" for Minecraft, and what is.
Bonus point for the guy that posted a bit before me, since I noticed it and felt like replying. -*- Most of the massive CPU usage in Minecraft comes from lighting calculations, as well as a bit of AI from mobs, spawning algorithms, and other little things adding up. Chunks have gotten alot more optimized, blocks only tend to update if one adjacent to them is modified, but some things like leaves get constant iterative checks to see if they're in range of a tree and stuff like that. Improving performance requires alot of.. well, little fixes.
most of the winers probably wont be able to complain because they are still rendering their worlds mwahahahaha.
I see we're back on the beer topic...
Just for a comparison;
I can play practically any game with perfectly fine FPS.
In minecraft, I can't see my coordinates when I hit F3. Tiny/Fast.
Random person "YOU SHOULD GET A BETTER COMPUTER BECAUSE ITS NOT EXPENSIVE WHINEWHINEWHINEWHINE"
2nd Random person "SHUT UP I CAN PLAY EVERYTHING ELSE WITH NO LAG"
3rd Random person "LOLOLLO LAG IS NOT FPS"
For goodness sake, could we please have an intelligent discussion in here? You choose; alcohol or flaming. You people seem to forget that alcohol is flammable...

Lag comes from Minecraft not being Optimized and using Java.[/Thread]

I hereby dub you 'Internet Sheriff'. You don't get a gun or a badge but you may use the term 'I AM TELLING A MODERATOR' freely. Go with dignity and honor good sir!
I get around 40-60 FPS on far fancy, and around 18-20 while recording. I am OK with both of those. But anything below like 15 is unbearable to me.
ujelly?
Probably not.
Actually, it can be the result of you being poor. What if you can't afford fast internet, and are stuck with dial-up?

Im sorry we aren't all spoiled brats who get the top computers because they cry to their parents.
