So I posted a thread on this last week, but I forgot to bookmark it, so here we go again.
So what is my idea?
A: LIGHTBULBS!
How is this different from all of the other threads about lightbulbs?
A: The way the Lightbulbs can be used are different.
Different How?
A: 1. Lights are connected by wire instead of redstone, and can be connected in a string and then hooked up to a light switch or a normal lever.
2. Lights can be crafted with gold to create a chandelier of sorts that can be connected with wire into a light switch.
3. Lights could also be crafted into a lamp, to be placed on a bed stand, or something along those lines
What about the wire? How does that work?
A:Wire is made out of Iron, by placing just an iron ingot on the crafting table. 1 Iron= 12 wire. Wire can be used instead of redstone to connect lightbulbs. Wire can be placed on ANY side of a block, not just on top, and can be covered by another block and still function. This provides the ability to created a seamless wiring job.
Where can Lightbulbs be placed?
A: Anywhere! They can be placed on any side of a block (i.e underside, side top) as long as there is room for it.
What is the crafting recipe for the lightbulb?
A:
= glass
=redstone

Should Lightbulbs have to be replaced over time?
A: you tell me.
so guys, what do you think? should they have to be replaced over time?
Let me know!

What if... minecraft was made in China?

EVERY recipe would require at least one lead block.
Even food.
ESPECIALLY food.
I'm confused is there a point to using wires instead of redstone, or am i just missing that part? Your post implies that wires are somehow much better, yet.. to me they sound exactly the same.
Really I'd almost they rather just modify redstone wires to go along the side of blocks as well as ontop.

no you see, you cant cover a block with redstone on it with another block, with wire, you can cover up the wire with another block so it looks better

and i totally just realised i posted this in the wrong Forum.
*facepalm*
At least you found out yourself, unlike some other people.
Great idea, but can't we just use Jack o' Lanterns and Pistons as for now?

Avid redstone engineer, mostly with pistons. Latest thread: Piston Trains Revived If you find my post useful, click the +1 button! It shows other people that the post may be useful to them. Of course, it's completely optional. *cocks gun*
Sounds pretty cool, not sure about the wiring thing though.
One thing I thought is why exactly would u want lights to off in minecraft?? I mean if someone could give me reason that'd surprise me

This is not possible to do with the game as currently coded. Every block takes up a full m^2 of space in the Minecraft world, even tiny things like redstone. Only one block can occupy any m^2. You can't have a wire that goes 'between' blocks, because there's no "between" for it to be in.

no, you don't understand, you just make it so that you can place a block on top of it, like with snow. This makes for an easier design than useing redstone

I think this is a very good idea, otherwise there's very little point in redstone 'torches'
I think lightbulbs should either replace redstone torches or be integrated into redstone as a seperate object, Im not sure making a whole new system AS WELL AS redstone is a good idea although Im completely behind replacing redstone with ordinary circuits that I can understand and use
IT would be great if I could install this on my PC, but I can't download any mods because my minecraft.exe doesn't work because of a java error :sad.gif:

My exact thought
actually, I don't like the lanterns idea, if it means we have to re-light torches
