Go outside and KILL ALL THE SPIDERS! MORE MAY COME AND THEN THE WAR HAS STARTED. YOU SHALL FIGHT FOR YEARS AND YEARS BUT NO ONE SHALL WIN. FIGHTING EVERY DAY AND EVERY NIGHT FOR YOUR ENTIRE MINECRAFT LIFE! Or, you could just wait for it to be day. (Day makes them good and they won't attack you unless you attack them first )
Build on a platform. Mine here is a tad on the large side but build a flat level on top of a wall, light it well and you're spider-proof
The walls are glass with wide open porches, I don't have doors except one on an access staircase.
mobs don't spawn on the platforms as they are light well enough. I'm at day 350+ on this world an have yet to be bothered while in the house.
You can build any style or design on top of a platform.
same effect but looks a little better than an outright lip at the top. You can also incorporate a line of sandstone into your outer walls, spiders cant climb up sandstone so they would stop when they hit that line
Looks like you made a mystery mark lol.
But I don't really care for the spiders, I just let them camp there until the morning. Then I bring out my wooden sword and chop them up like no tomorrow. :wink.gif:
But hey, at lease I get free string with half a heart left.
One way you can get a little more durability out of wood, is by using wood slabs. With a blast resistance of 30, two stacked on top of each other will have 60, which is twice the blast resistance of cobblestone.

Blast resistance is not additive.
I admit, I hadn't got around to testing it yet. That is a shame; although on the bright side, it still gives you wood with the same resistance as a single block of cobble, as well as being fireproof.
Just add a half-block overhang and you're golden. If you're house is wood, make wood ones, if your house is stone/brick use stone. Then look very nice and give the house a finishing touch. If you're making angled/sloped roofs, just extend it down one block so it looks like a natural overhang/sofet like a realy house!

There is no block that you can build with which cannot be climbed by spiders, except maybe Soul Sand. Please locate the source of your misinformation, and nuke it.
I have seen a video of spiders not climbing Soul Sand, from beta 1.2_02. That's a bit old, but I haven't seen anything newer.
Put a lip over the edge of the wall every other block. Spiders are two wide, so they won't be able to fit to get on the roof. It's a little ugly, but it works.
Now, that works with Castle designs, not house designs. Thanks though!

Logs being wood or anything, lime is grass, and then a hole in the ground possibly having the lip thing?
