I was a pirate. I played it, and then quickly bought it.
TBH, Minecraft does look like a stupid waste of money at first, but now that there's a demo, there's NO excuses!

I love Blizzard, but god help me, WoW is a giant money engine that uses human souls as fuel.
That just proves that you are a good person.
Now, I have a question that may seem stupid. Please don't blame me.
I have been pirating Minecraft for quite a while now, and I really want to buy it. If I purchase it now, will I still get the future updates like Beta 1.6 and 1.7 plus the full version??
I had a pirated version too. Then I bought an account because it's best game ever. I love you Minecraft <3

I have every right to use that image as my avatar. I support 11/9, and I laughed at it. Don't like it? Too bad. Last time I checked, I could express my opinion freely on this forum.

Um, hehe, yeah... I stole this car about 6 months ago and I really like it. If I go ahead and buy the car now will I still get the Bluetooth upgrade and DVD package for free? If not, just forget I mentioned it. kthx! :wink.gif:
Everyone seems to be forgetting a huge factor when making these comparisons to murder, or stealing a car. In both cases someone else has to lose something.
When a game is pirated the developer loses nothing. It's impossible to lose something that you never had. That's like saying that I lost $20 today because I drove to work and didn't pick up the $20 bill that I would have found on the sidewalk had I chosen to walk.
Some people argue that they are losing potential profit, but that's something that happens with every business, in hundreds of ways.

You people slay me.
I just wanted to know, but I am able to get every update for free if I want to. Whether I bought the game or not doesn't matter for anyone exept me and my conscience. To use your example, I have the Bluetooth upgrade and the DVD package, and even though they release new models, I can still manage to get them pretty easily.
By the way, if I have to spend 15 € on every update up to, say, Beta 2.2, I have spent something like 90 €, wich I am not allowed to do by my parents. (And my wallet)
I do in fact want to help the development of Minecraft, and join the other two-million-ish people who have bought the game. I would like to play Minecraft and know that I paid for it, know that I have supported it.
I'll still buy the game, I just wanted to know.
When a game is pirated the developer loses nothing.
Nor have anyone claimed that the developers are having any expenses related to people pirating games.
The problem is that you take something that have value without the rights to do so.
What you realy do is steal from the people who bought the game and like it.
Lets say lots of people pirate the game and the game didn't sell as well as it would if those pirates also had bought the game. That would likely lead to less support and added content for the original game. A sequel would likely have a smaller developmend budget, if made at all. And most likely would less money be invested in that genere in general as the (paying) maket wouldn't be as big it could have been.
Note that this mostly apply to pirates that rarely buy games.
And buying after pirating is obviously less wrong then never buying after pirating, especialy if you liked the game.
But just because it's less wrong doesn't make it right in any way. Im not saying you should get shot for it, just that you can't claim that it's right to pirate in any way or form. (milding sircumstances just makes a action more understandable, it's still wrong)

Cool story bro. Please make a thread somebody cares about next time.
Well I kind of did this. Only because I do not own a CC, and used paypal to buy the game from a direct debit. Unfortuantly that takes about 5-7 days to go through (E-Check It's called) and while I was waiting and watching all the youtube videos of other people playing I was so hyped and psyched up to play it I temporarily got a pirated one.
Ive not played Minecraft for a few months atm, but im glad I did buy it. 3 of my nephews even bought a copy after they saw how cool it was and played some on my computer.
I really like how this game is going, and still wonder what it will be like in 6 months or even a years time. I have to say Notch did a great job thinking this up, and the entire block aspect is what really got me hooked... (And also a fluke of luck seeing something called 'minecraft' on youtube). :smile.gif:
Same thing for me i first saw X's Adventures in Minecraft videos and i pirated the game then noticed that i could not get updates i was stuck in Alpha 1.2.6.
Then i bought it and i didn't feel guilty and then my Sister found out i was playing the game she and her friends were like 'he must be on crack that game looks s**tty' then one of my sisters friends said that the game was bomb they all asked how i got it i said 'i bought it' then my sister said 'ill just get it for free' then i said 'good luck'.
Then my Sister wanted money (she spent it all on cigarettes) i said NO.
The next day i went with my friends to the movies i payed for the tickets and the food (very generous) when i came back home my sister and her friends were all on the couch playing minecraft.
I was like what the f**k then i said 'hey what's going on you playing minecraft' then my sister said 'how do you make server' then i said 'i have one' then they said 'whats the ip' then i said '***.***.*.*****' (it's a private server).
And we stayed up all night playing minecraft.

Use it for torches, or use it to smelt that gold ore!
Here's some more presents for you!
If someone pirates it, then buys it, Notch still get's money. So there you go.
Personally, I pirated it before buying, and if I hadn't pirated it, I might not have bought it.
Always willing to help. Message me.
