It shouldn't be getting stuck. It just goes slower when it's in the corners.
If by slower, you mean unmoving, then yes.
Also, I found a way to fix half of my problem, if I place the source block farther back, loot will be carried towards the opening, but things are still getting stuck on the corners.
Normally I narrow the channel only when I can make a terrain drop. It looks as such, then, normally:

With the teal wool being source blocks, this should redirect all flow properly. Of course, you will need to place the flow in reverse flow order so as to keep things flowing (pun intended). Good luck.
