Fun facts:
If you look carefully, the chicken feet in the wikipedia picture (which I used above) are wrong! Chickens no longer have a middle toe and have feet more like ducks ("chuckens"). My chicken is a chucken.
The chicken is built from
a double chest full of Nether Quartz pillars and chiseled blocks - topped with lower nether quartz slabs. I chose the two types of quartz blocks to give it a sort of feathered texture overall.
yellow wool (the legs)
yellow and orange and light gray stained clay (beak) and red wool (wattle)
Obsidian and glowstone (eyes)
The mob ignition mechanism operates by detecting a mob falling into the lava block with a tripwire. While the tripwire is triggered, a sticky piston continuously moves a half slab back and forth to push the mob out of lava and into the "poop chute". This mechanism is necessary because I couldn't think of any passive mechanism to both set the mobs on fire and get them out of the way quickly. In a lava stream, they swim the wrong way, so you can't rely on that.
Getting in and out of the chicken is accomplished with a Nether Portal.
Texture pack is basically DustyCraft but with many blocks replaced/adapted/removed (for example, default stained clay colors work better.)

Now, two years later, I have built an epic giant chicken which spawns mobs and poops them (flaming) out of its butt.
It is to scale, 1 pixel = 3x3x3 blocks
(I built it to appease the mighty Edwin, god of chickens, who was offended due to my automated chicken killing farms.)
